just bought a new 14ft cat and don't know where to take it to show my son how to rig and sale the thing anyone suggest

Talk to your nearest yacht club if you want to sail it, but to sale it I am not sure??

Northern burbs have lots of mud to launch from cat. Or the southern bay area have sandy little beaches and mud

It has been a while since sailing in Brisbane but I would highly recommend the following:

Bribie Island - mainland side
Redcliffe (Humpybong area)
Lake Cootharaba (for a weekend)
Victoria Point to Coochie Mudlo for a lunch adventure (not much beach though at Victoria Point)
Gold Coast broadwater
Lake Samsonvale - probably the pick for teaching your son but may need to join the club for access - I don't think it is expensive.

Hi Cattrap. Apologies for taking so long to respond. I have had the same problem as yourself, having bought a hobie 16 recently to sail with the kids. I have found it extremely difficult to find anywhere to sail 'off the beach' unless you belong to a club. I have had a good look around Brisbane, and coming from the southside, I have found the following to be the best spots:

- Wellington Point - off the main ramp on the Eastern side
- Thorneside - there is a public ramp which goes into Tingalpa Creek. Painful at low tide as you have to navigate through the long channel into the bay
- Public Ramps in Manly boat harbour - Scary due to the amount of traffic and very little room to manouver a cat which doesn't like tacking
- Victoria Point - Haven't been there but have been advised that it is a good spot to launch from and to go over to Coochiemudlo
- Humpybong - Sailed there years ago in a skiff but a good spot from memory just a bit far to drive to if you live on the south side

Most other good looking spots have been bollarded off. It probably would pay to join a club if you are considering going out regularly.
