im in the process of sanding and preparing my exterior teak.. i was going to do cetol marine natural teak but i cant find the gloss topcoat for sale in australia.
this seems a bit silly as each recoat of the cetol will gradually make the teak muddy, dark and hide the grain, requring complete resend. from my understanding once the 2 coats of cetol are applied its the gloss top coat that gets redone annually. so what am i missing here. it seems to me the cetol in australia is a complete waste of time without the gloss topcoat?
I have found that even the Cetol gloss variety does not come up like the good polyurethanes. It is however more elastic and does not tend to crack nearly as much. Feast Watson Weatherproof has given me good results and enhances Teak without much darkening .I start out mixing it with Penetrol to let it soak in initially and then build the coats up from there. A 'poor mans Goldspar at around half the cost! As with any clear finishes, covers over the top to prevent UV damage, will keep it as new for years to come.
I might just go the bunnings cetol as its half the price. from what i read it holds up OK ad is half the price. at least i can get the gloss topcoat. varnish sounds like to much work to maintain..
