well
i am in Noosa
and i am creating a sailing school
'cool sailing school"
principaly for women
men are welcome too , but they must be the gentle humble kind , and no drinking or smoking, and no shouting ..and no big ego..
to sail around Fraser island, Noosa, Brisbane

is anyone interested
it is a non profit school, just to have fun , and participate with the cost of running the boat.
I have a boat , but i am looking at investing in a sailor trailer to take it sometime to fraser island ..ect..
i am an experienced sailor, love teaching other in calm and fun

I know all that
I manage a sailing school before in Sydney, and used to taking the people swiming with the daufins in Port Steven..
i have the cowsain certificate ..
i am just putting somes idea and infos , to see who would be interested,

it is not a question of investment , as i have the boat and will buy an other one anyway, just sharing some sailing .
not everything is about money and profit

one could always go to the Noosa yacht club , well they are "tuff" and "ruff" , and take themself too seriously for me as if their little regata is their ego trip,

this is not my scene at all, even when i am racing..
when i offer my help and service to thatNoosa yacht club, they told me , i could be a crew ..humm ..women can not be skipper there..
well they can keep their 'old boys club"

i do not like shooting on a boat, nor any sort of vulgarity, and i do not really drink so this limit a lot of social interaction in many Yacht Club ...
it is why
i have a boat , i am love sharing , so if some women are interested , they are welcome.

Hi Catherine, I think what your doing is great and it's one of the most rewarding thing's about having a boat is to share the experence with others. I have made many freinds this way and have place's to stay at in many countries

Hi Catherine,

While I may agree that there a people at NYRC that do have an ego / boys club. I would strongly suggest talking to Kai Timm (if you have not done so) he is the manager of the Youthsail program there. He is a very passionate, experienced sailor and a great instructor with the kids there (I know this first hand). Also he does not have any of the issues you allude to. I would say he is the best thing that has happened to NYRC.

You can pm me if you want any more information, but his contact details should be on the NYRC youthsail website.

Hi Cathy
If you own your own boat why did you need to skipper another boat at Noosa and if you were new to the club why would they let you skipper anyway - Name me a Yacht Club where you just turn up and they hand you the tiller!!!
Noosa has 2 Club owned Blazer 23' which are used for youth development training and racing not for anybody to just turn up and sailaway.

Robert when you say "offered my help there" dont you mean that you were looking for a job as a sailing instructor of which there was not one available and from memory you did not have Yachting Australia sailing instructor qualifications!!

SailingNoosa Paul?
I was offering to volunteer my time, I never got to speak to anyone at the yacht club, yourself included. I did leave sailing C.V. with you but never heard anything back, from anyone.
I'm an AYF oceanyachtmaster at the least and as you have read or maybe read my C.V. you know my background, just because i dont have apiece of paper saying that I can teach sailing doesnt mean that i cant.
Dont really want to get into a debate about the bureaucracy behind it all.
Sorry I couldnt be of help to you and the youth around Noosa, thats all.

Ha ha ha ha Sitting here laughing my ass off!
Catherine, good luck to you and dont forget to check your insurance policy to make sure volunteers are covered.
Im also aware of Yacht club mentality and the pettyness of it, I was constantly asked by the local yacht club to enter my cat in their wednesday races and when i gave in and done my first race i got treated like a lepper and was told i couldnt have the winners bottle of rum because i was new! I beat all the racing boats on my heavy liveaboard cruiser and they werent too happy! Ha i now retire from racing with a 100 percent record!

and i was not looking to get soemoen else "price and joy " and "big ego ".far from it
i was willing to help , especially for the young people or learners
i do have a coxsain ticket in Australia
and qualified instructor in France.
but this is not the point
by the way
i know few Yacht club in Australia , USA , and Europe ( i sail in few place around the world , not only in Noosa river .....humm)

thank scico
but the all point to go to CA to buy a boat is to sail across the pacific in 2 years.
i year cruising CAand then down to mexico ..and crossing in 2011
with some of my family from France.

I am well informed about all 'paper works ' necessary ..ect..
thank you anyway
by the way i will not buy a Aluminuim boat ,and i do not want to work with asail boat.
have fun yes, but not as a business.

regards
Catherine

dear sir
i NEVER say that Aluminium boat where no good, off course not !!
Why and where did you get the idea i critisise Aluminium boats???

there are in my opinion one of the best material , and indeed Aluminum boat are very popular in France ,and you can buy them at any stage of finition, there are countless of Aluminium design boats in France , and they are very much thought after for long distance cruising
I have few friends with Aluminium boat and even with ferro boat too

i ONLY say that : i will not buy one MYSELF.
i do not know enough about them as long time maintenance, and i do not know to weld ..ect,,ect..
i build and repair plywood, timber, fiberglass, composite boat..and it is enough knowlegde at this time for me ..
i prefere to deal with what i am more familiar with for the time beeing.

Piss funny thread. Best forum reading for a while ;-)

Interesting to see the collision of values and ideas.

Good luck with your training venture cathyoz. Passing on a passion to others can be very rewarding. And good luck to those who wrap their ego around their next race. It can be very rewarding to pit yourself along with other crews and boats against nature, and yourself and nature against other crews.

Yeah, I am with Cisco on this one and one other thing, it should not matter if you can spel or not.

Whilst on the subject of sailing, does anyone know of any good social sailing events taking place around Sydney Harbour for Australia day Long weekend?

Or any short cruises going up or down the coast looking for more boats to partake.

Regards

Manni
