hi there, only windrush racing on sundays at the moment, myself and the other boats are only sailing for fun at the moment. but could maybe try organising something, i have contact with some of them.

The Sunday "Off the Beach" (OTB) racing is a all-in-class racing - very laid back and social. We have a few LW Sharpies, some 420's, a couple of Mirrors, an old 470 and my restored Nacra. I usually get done because it's morning sailing but this year it's a mix of morning and afternoon (with Breeze!)...the only reason I got up last week. I finally got an opportunity to dispel the rumour that cats can't point (correcting for apparent wind, that is). Did 1/4 of the tacks and cleaned up.

It's not interclub racing but I will find out how we can welcome some visitors. No other Nacras in the club. In fact no other cats. Comet bay is the open water you enter as you navigate out of the Mandurah Marina...north to Secret Harbour. We put on a grouse Easter Regatta but classes are limited to Oppy's, Lasers, 420's, Javelins, Conteders (and a few more). Mike

hi guys count me in for 31 dec i will put the word out to a few as well. ive been on crew at tcyc in r/ham sailing with a friend on his yvonne, there is around 10 boats every sat arvo, great racing and awesome ride downwind with the assymetrical kite, looking forward to racing the hobie soon. talk soon guys

Unfortunatly most of the nacra guys will be at the nationals on the 31 dec, Would be good to see the hobie 17's and the nacra 5.0 come down to Geographe bay yacht club regatta on the Australia day long weekend! Should have a big turn out of cats this year with the yvonnes, hobie 16's, nacra 16sq's, 5.8's, f18's and some tornadeos.

Also if your interested the WA Nacra Association is looking at holding the Nacra state titles on the Koombana Bay March Regatta. It would be a yardstick event open to all financial nacra sailors.

Just something to think about, would be great to see some more cats attending these regattas.

Hi Mike,

From the sounds of it your boat has the old wire bridal forestay set up, with the smaller jib? Nacra updated both the 5.0 and 5.8 several years ago and put a solid bridal across the hulls. They found the force exerted by the rig was moving the hulls dramatically; the added support from the solid bridal stopped this movement improving the life of the boats. This also increased the length of the forestay so a new bigger jib was introduced improving performance. To answer your question I would be very careful putting a bigger jib on if you only have the wire bridal.

In response to your second question, I would assume you would find an increase in both speed and height due to the longer foot improving the slot effect between jib and main however i'm not certain. I will have a talk to the manufacture regarding your questions and see what his recommendations are. If you’re looking for more speed down wind, there’s always the spinnaker option with new bridal setup?

I have been reading your posts with interest.
Good to see a keen nacra racer.
To help with the rigging issue if you place the rollers right at the back when righting the mast the rear guy walks the mast forward and uses the roller axel as a step to step up on to the boat with. Also slopes the boat nose down and helps the mast pop forward when up.

2nd issue I wouldnt put any bar across the boat that wasnt designed for the task.
The proper bridal foil is tempered aluminium and has a wire and post support to take the load. little load is placed on the actual cross bar.

I would hate to see you damage the boat. As yachty boy has said a kite may be your best option.
