Anyone had experience with side scan/vision combo sounders?
Are they worth the extra $?

Not worth the extra money. I have one on my fishing boat and never use it, the image is very cryptic , and not like the brochure. You would never use it on a yacht as it is too hard to read and decipher the image.

We used to use them to fill in the gaps between our sounding lines. Just in case we missed a reef or wreck.
My primary sounder for sailing is a fish finder these days. Great for seeing if the bottom is coming up at a glance

I am considering a Garmin ecomap 9sv.
Anyone with experience with these or similar.
