For those who are not aware, the incredible story of Donald Crowhurst has just been released in cinema, it's called ''the Mercy''

Been to see it yet?

I loved Deep Water. Oddly, there was another film coming out this year, called simply "Crowhurst". Interesting article about it here: www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/how-studiocanal-ended-up-two-movies-exact-same-subject-1039302

I have two minds about it.

It is worth watching for sure but...
I don't think Firth - whom l appreciate very much - is going to get an oscar or a cone of ice cream for it.

The book is better. Methinks.

I read another book after the race called, "The strange voyage of Donald Crowhurst" by Nicholas Tomalin. I recall that it was a sad, but very good, read. First published in 1970, I think it is still in print

"A Voyage for Madmen" by Peter Nichols tells the strange strange story of that first race and is a great read.

A Voyage for Madmen is an excellent account.
I have just finished Knox-Johnston's book again. I still find it a great read.
i have also just read 500 Days, Serge Testa's Book on his circumnavigation in his self built 12ft yacht. A different sailing account but an excellent read.

I did a Brisbane to Gladstone race on the Yacht "Enid" with Serge Testa not long after he did the circumnavigation and its still got me bugged how he made it round the world.

A certain genius I think. But then the line between insanity and genius is a thin one.
He took a great risk but to his credit when he was caught short he sorted himself out refusing to put others at risk to help him.
