yeah!
we race against one at south of perth yc. it's damn quick for it's size! we (an inglis 47) struggle to beat it (but usually do) in the light stuff. (decent wind and it's a different story, no comparison)
nice boat all round though would look at getting one if i wanted a boat in that size.

Dachopper, South Of Perth has a few of these, (well did last season)
Raced against them in A division and sports class (when they had sports class)
Bloody things go like a rocket. Some of the crew who sail them there actually built them. Hit the SOPYC and see if you can get a handle on who owns them I do know one is an ex-commodore.
But all in all the sure are fast but handicapped out most times which is a disappointment for them. They always had fastest times but relegated back down the fleet after handicap allocation. Handicap admin wouldn’t leave the system alone, soon as they had a "good" day they suffered big time the following weeks with a horrible score.

Guy Skinner owns Turnem Green but it has been in his yard for a coupla seasons while he did some work on it.
Paul and Mike Dunbar as well as Dave Gardiner own Insitu Racing (Go Below Me)

They built their own boats. Haul Ass when it is blowing down hill

My old man just bought one....
took it for a spin today from point walter boat ramp.. got up over 9 kts just cracked off the breeze in about 10-12 kts with the main and jib :) and 8kts to windward.

BUT found that the thing was very hard to steer over the shallow water with the keel up and just the outboard hanging off....

any1 have any gouge or tips on using the spinnika? we did'nt try it today, hoisting and lowering the keel and mast was hard enough!

assymetric kites are fun. the trick with dropping them in is to fire the tackline first, collect the foot, and then drop the halyard. trim them in and out just keep the luff curling.in the big gusts bear away and ease the sheet a little.

so the front of an assym is always at the front of the boat.... and you just jibe the other foot like a headsail but in front of the head stay

What sort of thommo did your old man buy?

Assys are great to sail with. Just make sure you have enough pace up before the jybe to flick the sail around of it goes to ****

we just got a new one. 93ft along the luff. Plan to give it a run on the weekend if the wind plays fair

In his garage, On another note he is trying to make some fibreglass wings. The origional design for the boat had a 3 metre beam but it looks as though it has been literally " sliced " and reinforced at the gunnel area when it hits 2.5 metres beam and then runs in a straight line at 2.5 metres until the rear of the yacht. He wants to make some removable wings so he can still trailer the boat. any ideas how to attatch them ? hinge whise

... Saw one of those on the net recently... looks pretty nice for a 980 trailerable. Can you ramp launch it? and whats it like getting the mast up? Has any1 seen the sports 8 from south perth sailing and know if it goes? when do the other 3 thompsons that are there usually race?
inside racing? , road warriors , keeled over?
