Would you really want / trust a second hand boom? I imagine the second hand marklet for such things is very limited. If somebody is replacing their boom it is probably because it has been damaged in some way or at best it would be quite old and well used.

Where are you, Steve? I'd give Joe Walsh a call if you're anywhere near Sydney - he'd be the type of rigger who'd know. Type of guy who might fashion one out of a top of another bigger one and make it work. :)

A cut down mast from a trailer sailer would do the trick.

I have the boom off my old quarter tonner[26 footer] down stairs somewhere. How long does the Bluebirds boom need to be?

The boom downstairs is 2.650m so too short. I would suggest keeping an eye out in scrap metal places and rubbish dump recycle shops for old Hobie cat masts. I fiited a larger main on my old quarter tonner hence the spare boom here. I picked up a Hobie 16 mast and made a new boom from that. They are very heavy sections though and I cut lightening holes the whole length. Probably see the fished article in my photos.

thanks heaps Ramona for doing checking it out and the offer of your boom!
ive decided to repair mine again by taking it to some marine alloy guys to weld. the new existing boom will have the sleeve i put inside with rivetts, the new weld plus a rivetted outer sleeve. should be pretty tough.

There's a Hood 23 for sale at Castlecrag for $500 with a newish rig in it - that would be a good source of a boom etc and plenty of spare parts!

Thanks for That. I got mine welded. It's pretty good. Tough as anything. not sure what I'd do with another boat?

I tried to to get hold of joe. Never replied, answered calls or got back to me , so I got it welded. It's very strong now.

Sadly, Joe is legendary for that. He does good work, but he loses a lot of business because he never answers or returns phone calls.
