Hi Guys
I guess you would be sick of novices asking this question.
I am 6'2 weigh about 103kg, very new to paddle boards and want to purchase my own.
I have been talking to shops and getting a lot of different advice on boards ranging from 10' odd to 12' odd.
My intended use will be mainly still water but with experience would like to try small wave surfing (I do mean small).
Can you give me some advice on length ,width and thickness of a board and anything I need to know.

Hey DJ those radical channels on the Naish do they work, what's the effect? I'm really am interested in stuff like that.

check out the 10.8 cabrinha, 34 inches wide, stable as a pontoon but surfs really well and good to paddle.

They actually do work.. As a part of doing that vid there was a time when I placed the GoPro under water while still moving and you could clearly see the rows of air bubbles running along each channel.. It's a shame I missed adding that to the vid in my rush to put it together.. You don't need a vid to know that they are working.. You can feel it and even hear it as you paddled.. The air helps unstick the board from the water and the channels also add a lot of stability and help resist rocking/tipping.. It's a great all-round size and shape board.

If you look at my posting ( heavy weight paddler) and some of the great replies you may get some ideas. I got great help from many and it was a very close call between the PSH 10.2 and the Naish Mana 10 ft. I went with the Mana in the end just down to the weight difference in the boards.

DJ was having a look at the new Naish yesterday (one of the boys had bought it) and was discussing the channels with him. He is using it predominately as a windSUP and was saying the channels were really evident when he was paddling or sailing the board. I will get a paddle on it today to see what the differences are.

Thomo I'm the same size as you & I own a Naish Nalu 11'6" & I love it. Paddles effortlessly on flat water & I've surfed it up to 4 ft. Mine is the Wood Sandwich construction. They also come in what they call AST construction. The wood board has an ergonomic handle which makes a huge difference if you have to carry the board any distance. The AST boards have the regular flat handle which in my opinion sux balls. I've been told that Naish have a patent on the handle design which is why nobody else is making boards with this kind of handle...
