Hi,

I have had a Naish 8.5 Hokua GT for about 2 years. Last year I noticed when I ran my hand over the top surface of the board (between the pad and tip) the surface felt gritty. This year I have noticed that these grit bits have turned into small bubbles. At least two of these bubbles have burst. One of them has left a 2 - 3 cm hole in the top surface layer of the resin.

I am wondering if anyone knows why this has happened so I can avoid it getting worse?

Also wondering if I should repair the holes in the top layer of resin?

If I need to explain further then what can I say.

Osmosis. First came across it years ago with my Fireball (fibreglass). Same thing happens with my McT sups. Leave the board out of the bag and the bubbles eventually disappear.

You can use board bags, just never close the zip fully. Leave the zip 1' to 2' open for the board to dry. Basically I zip just around the tail and stop before the front fins.
A wet board in a closed bag will:
- risk having paint bubbles by osmosis (doesnt happen to all boards)
- have the water in vapor form go through the goretex vents and nest deep in the blank by capillarity, as the vent is always "breathing" due to temperature changes. The board lady tells of a board that had gained 1lbd weight this way.

I guess the sane thing to do would be to cut a hole in the bag where the goretex vent is.

Thanks for this tip. I have followed these instructions and indeed the bubbles are going. :-)
