Hi guys

New to this forum but have read enough on the reviews and wanted to narrow down my choice of selection. I have been paddling for about 1 year on a 10 footer. I originally just wanted to use it for flats and a little bit of surf. Now I find it like a cruise liner, and wanted something I can use for Northern Beaches beach breaks. Im about 100kgs, and have come from a shortboard background. I prefer my fishes and shortboards on days 3+. But I have found when its only 1-2 foot, its better for me to jump on the 10 footer.

So coming off a 10 footer (I think volume is about 150 liters) I want a little freedom and movement on the little waves. I know the AW and the Surf Music are small, but they would be fun for little 2 footers.

Would I be bored of the Mana after 6 months?
Is the Surf Music to wide? (9 x 34)
What volume should I look for?

the mana is a nice board, but it has a lot of volume i believe around 190l, which is a lot more than the board you are currently riding, the 9.2 allwave would probably be better, or maybe even one of the new 9'5 hokua, just head down to your loacal shop and have a chat with someone and see what the'll let you demo

i have the 3 boards in question in my quiver. Over the past 4 weeks ive been surfing the surfmusic and trying to suss it out.

to start with im 106 kg so slightly heavier than you. the naish mana is a good board, more of a long board style board. relatively stable and easy to surf. A lot of rocker so is fairly loose but looses some glide. was the best all round board a couple of years ago. Ive surfed mine in 6 inch ripples up to 5 foot glassy point breaks. does everything well but can be a little slow down the line. light, but ive had issues with breaking a couple in solid beachbreak conditions.

the allwave 9.2 and 9.6 are in my opinion the best current all round boards on the market. if your over 100 kg and want to surf smallish waves, i would suggest the 9.6 allwave. the 9.6 is almost as loose as the 9.2 but gets onto waves a lot earlier. both these boards are super loose and ultra stable. The 9.6 catches almost anything and with the centre fin moved forward is one of the loosest boards i have surfed. Ive surfed this in 1 foot to 4 foot local conditions and i cant recommend these boards enough. Very light and super strong.

Im finding the lopez an enigmatic board. i hated it as a quad on perths small mushy surf. now surfing it as a thruster. running the small sides and pushed the centre fin as far forward as it goes. its now surfing slightly looser, but not as loose as the allwaves. By moving the centre fin so far forward ive lots heaps of drive. compared to the all waves and the mana its much harder to get onto waves. Im sitting 5 to 10 metres closer in on the lopez as compared to the other two. It is super stable, looks great and is well built, but so far its not as much fun for me as the allwaves.

All 3 are great boards, but if you want to surf small waves and have fun i would highly recommend the allwave 9.2 or if youre over 100 kg the 9.6 allwave.

@sameh. Thanks so much for that. I have seen the AW and they look rad. Its a toss up between the AW and Surf Music I guess it's about having fun. What's the weight like between the two? All my short boards are quads as I find bigger guys suit speed. I'm surprised the quad set up isn't working for you. I think both are future fins and was thinking of running AM2 fins up front and Anderson rears.

So what can I expect to pay for these boards... I think the SM is $1695 not sure if the AW is same price?

All three boards are relatively light dry. The allwaves seem to collect more water on their deckpads and get a little heavier than the lopez. Not an issue though. The lopez comes with the lopez fins and i these are pretty stiff at the best of times. Im planning on taking the lopez down south tomorrow to see how it surfs in some real waves. The board looks like it should go really well in some clean size even at 34 inches wide. Will run it as both a quad and a thruster on the weekend to see if it goes better in real waves. With a set of looser fins the
Lopez would ve a different kettle of fish completely. By setting it up as a thruster and using the smaller side fins, and running the centre as far forward, ive certainly lost drive as compared to surfing it as a quad, but it is more manouverable. Ill eventually get it sussed and figure out how to make it perform to my weight and style of surfing. And therein lies the strength of the allwaves. Straight off the rack, they surf awesomely well. You dont need to tweak them, they are absolutely plug and play. The 9.2 is a couple of pounds lighter than the 9.6 but neither is really heavy. I think you can pick up an allwave for between 1400-1500 dollars depending on how hard you haggle.

From personal experienxe, be carefull with Naish. Ony good thing that came out my experience with a Naish board was the fact that it got me to buy the 8'5"PR and the 9'2"Allwave.
Changed the 9'0"Mana twice for different reasons, but the second time it was taking water through a deffectively intalled handle. No way to notice this since the pad comes already installed... Bad luck? Maybe but the same shop reported another defective board with the same problem and another one had a few cases. The board was great and everything, great team of riders and an impressive marketing campaign but try to go to their website and find a "contact us" section. I had to go through FACEBOOK to get to these people. Looks like they leave the customer service part up to the independent retailers, don't know how much of a good strategy that one is...

Fanatic Allwave 8'10"

Markus, I'm also kitesurfer that surfs in wind waves when wind is too light o kitesurf. 80 kgs. if you want to surf and play in beach break get a Fanatic All Wave 9-2. 160 l but very stable. catches 6 in waves...
if you want to flat water paddle and distance paddle get a 12-6 or 14 Fanatic Falcon or Similar. I know these are available in Germany.
