Hi guys ,

I have a 10'10 NALU for more than a year.
Been thinking to move to 11'.
This is a board for flat water fun/cruising/fitness..

What is your idea on this?

Will this be a step up or down?

Thank you

How heavy are you.. ?

If it's mostly for flat water the 11'4" Nalu might be a better option over the 11' Nalu because the 11'4" has a flatter rocker and paddles flat water better..

Hi DJ,

I am currently between 73-78kg (unstable), but the 11'4 seems too big at 231 lt .

I was more attracted to a lighter board for easier carry.

So my alternatives were the 11'0, which I understand is more of a surf board (unfortunately for me), or the Mana 9'5 or 10'..

But my main concern is would this be an upgrade from my current board or a downgrade?
Speaking in flat (or a bit windy) paddling.
I like the smaller dimensions of the mana, but would it paddle so well in flat water? Like my 10'10?

Ps I also have a 10'6 NALU in my possession.

the 11'4 is 180 litre and weight is the same as the 11' @ 11.4kg
i agree that the 11'4 would be better for flat water paddling it is noticeably faster.
We have both in our collection,11' and 11'4 .if i was only in the flat I would get the 11'4

the 11'6 has 231 litres .

the nalus are great boards the mana 10' & 9.5 paddle fine.if thats your other thought.
They both have a fairly flat rocker .

Hey Tardy,

Thanks for your input!
Do you have any experience with the 10'10, so as to compare it with the mana series and the 11'4 ?

Which one do you think is the best flat water paddler?

It's been a few years since I paddled the 10'10 .i thought it was pretty good ,nice and stable and holds a nice straight line with the channels .
been wide it felt big.I did have a 11' glide which felt similar .
but I prefer the narrower 11'4 ,the wider boards are more stable but do feel a little draggy .
have you thought of getting a flat water board .eg .glide or javelin.
when I flat water paddle now I use a 14' javelin .
you could even get a 12.6.or 11,6 touring glide .

but it sound like you are gunning for a small board .

you say you have a 10.6 Nalu .its similar feel to the 11'and 11'4 ,
my daughter who is 13 ,fly's on the 11'4 .its the Gt so she can carry it ,at 11.4 kgs .
i struggle to catch her on my 11' .basically because the 11' has heaps of rocker for surfing .and Im heavier.

the mana s are wave boards ,but do flat water paddle quite good ,as they do have quite a flat rocker .if your not in a hurry ,and want the luxury of a small board they are good .some times I can't be bothered throwing the big board on ,I'll throw the 9.5 mana on and just paddle around in still water .
looking at the reef and just floating .If I need to do some distances .the Nalu or Javelin.
Im 94 kgs.so the 9.5 is still in my range .

hope this helped.I still think the 11.4 it's got good speed and its light .surf too ,you might go on a trip somewhere ,your covered.

DJ,

Do you still have your 10'10?
I ve seen your videos and reviews and wondering if you have found any better size within the NALU family for flat water paddling.

Thanks Tardy,

Very helpful indeed.
Which one you consider ''faster''.
Nalu 10'10 or Nalu 11'4 ? or another one in the Nalu family?

PS: I dont enjoy the 10'6 a lot to be honest, because when the sea is a bit windy/sloppy, its not so stable as the 10'10, which feels like a tank..

Well the 11.6 Nalu is the fastest .but it's also a tank .

the 11.4 I would say would be the second fastest .I haven't done much time on the 10'10 so I can't really compare it .but it's wider ,and shorter
so Im guessing a tad slower .the 11.4 doesn't feel tanky.
long and slim ,long board feel like the 10.6 but a extra 20 litres and almost a foot longer, which gives it the edge.for my weight .
I find the 11.4 pretty good in chop ,just make sure you get your speed up when going through the rough stuff .
It has a nice glide .I use the 11'4 as a single fin .less drag as to using it as a tri.

i only use the 11' and 11.4 for small surf, they can catch waves very easy ,having the extra speed .

Dj has the best cruzy vids.and good choice in music .
i want him to do a action one with the Angels.

Great,

So, you are basically saying that the 11.6, will be the actual improvement in flat water paddling (within the nalu line) from the 10'10 i am currently and not the 11'4, in terms of speed and stability...

Forget the 11'6" Nalu.. Great board for a really big guy to learn on or use as a family board but it a huge barge and pretty heavy..

I really like the 10'10" Nalu and maybe you should look at a flat water board like the Glide Touring or the 9'10" Odysseus.. Maybe even the new bigger 11'2" Odysseus.. I love my 12'x30 Glide touring board..

The 11' Nalu is a great surfing board but doesn't paddle flat water very well.. The 11'4" is a slightly better flat water paddler but it's still a surfing board..

You asked which i thought was the fastest .but shes a big board.and you can do better for your money.
I would suggest a touring .get a 14'. Or 12-5.

I agree. If your not intending to surf you don't need another Nalu. I've got an 11'4 and it's a good board but not super stable or fast. Look at a dedicated tourer if that's what your after.
