Looks like Starboard made an attempt to produce a professional looking video.....

except the spokesman stumbled all over himself when talking about the design,,.
and the "action" videos they chose to showcase the performance of the "Nut" on a wave... didn't.

I just don't get it.... why is it so hard to get useful info from the people that build SUPs

i might observe that I love my starbys, but it seems a tad ridiculous that starby dont seem to be involved in the sup demo day in Torquay on dec 6th. Richie has every other board under the sun there. I understand the situation to a degree, but it's a shame we don't get to compare starbys with the other brands at the same time. There would be a lot of Torquay, geelong and melb crew keen to try the starbys in some surf, I would expect.

So what are peoples thoughts after demoing them? What size did you ride? Conditions? Nose rideable?

Finally some good surf yesterday on the 9'5 Starboard Nut.

This is my first SUP board review and I hope it quenches a small thirst of interest some readers may have on the 9'5 Nut.

After a long period of crappy surf down here in Victoria seeing 2-3' of swell, a perfect off shore wind on an incoming tide and the Nut in the van I felt like I had won the lottery.

Paddling the nut is a treat. After playing around on 8' and sub 8' boards that tend to use up my energy getting around the line up, getting back on an easy paddler was very pleasant indeed.

On my forehand the 9'5 Nut transitioned from bottom turn to a high line in a flash and felt very natural.
Whilst maintaining a high line with a few accelerating mid face bottom turns the nut went very quickly and felt very responsive.
I believe the side cut design is contributing to the ease of acceleration in this speed pump situation.

The small top turns on the 'Starboard Nut' influenced a new sensation of dropping my rear knee towards the completion of the turn which is something I am looking forward to playing with in future surfs on this board.

On the backhand waves I have so far surfed on 'The 9'5 Nut' I found my feet positioning close enough too 'spot on' after my bottom turn. This may be due to the shorter board tail design with less surface area that seems more forgiving on your foot positioning for going back up the wave on your heals on your backside.

On the small sections of the wave running up the nose and surfing the nose pod section of this board is a great sensation and something I am looking forward to exploring more.

I find 'The Nut' an exciting design for SUP due to its practical volume, stability and turning ability.
The boards narrow realistic surf tail and ease of paddling is a refreshing change from the hyped Vanguard style, wide tail sups that seems to be gripping the smaller wave areas of our Australian coastline.

After two surfs in one day on this board on two completely different breaking waves I think this board is a great option for SUP riders with a prone surfing background or as an alternative board choice option to a more gun style board in a two board quiver.
