just got a fanatic stylemaster, dticker said "don't store wet board in bag due to paint blistering"

never knew this was the case.

I have all ways stored my boards(all water sports) in bags as most damage happens off the water.

Interested in in people's views, or if they have had any problem.

Paint "blistering" has been a recurrent problem for Fanatic. In fact their paintwork in general is pretty poor IMO.

I always store wet - but I live in a cold(ish) climate. Maybe it's worse in hot climates. The only board I've had trouble doing that with is my Fanatic. I started to get little bubbles in the paintwork that people here call osmosis, but I call "poor paintwork because things designed to go in water should be waterproof".

I had the problem on a Hobie.
It can cause osmosis.

I wipe my board down with a chamois before putting it into the bag. Not to stop paint blistering, just because it's quicker and easier and better than having water dripping into the car.

I wouldn't buy a board that had warnings about paint blistering. Sounds like they're trying to head off warranty claims. I have never had any paint blistering in decades of putting boards in bags.

oh and i always bag em wet, and store em wet in bag---never had an issue with mold, anything---can smell raunchy, but nbd, i smell raunchy

i recently made big progress here, and occasionally even turn the board over to drain the handle prior to bagging!

It has nothing to do with trying to get away from warranty claims. All the brands have the same issue due to osmosis. All of the brands now experience osmosis every now and again if boards are stored wet in hot and humid conditions. The warning stickers are becoming common place. If it occurred and there were no warning stickers, everyone on the Breeze would be whinging about it. It is something that occurs more in hot humid climates.

Fanatic or Naish have no more issues than Starboard or any other brand when I look at the claims coming through our shop. Working in a shop, I see issues with all brands including the brands that aren't made in the Cobra factory.

When we sell a board we make sure we warn customers. Since we started telling people about the issue the reported cases have reduced dramatically. I always wipe my board down and never store it in a wet board bag for any lengthy period.

"osmosis" seems totally unlikely--i cant imagine a carbon/glass layered epoxy surface getting permeated by a sprinkling of seawater?? unless there are pinholes or something?? but that would indicate poor construction--permeability for a sup surface skin is a design flaw as far as I am concerned

the paint on my AW never bubbled--it just chipped away with any contact at all

anyway the paint on my starboard ast, my airborne blue carbon and my old walden has held up fine--after years of wet-bagging after pretty much every sesh, and a freshwater rinse maybe once or twice a year

after 10 sessions on the 2015 AW ltd, it looked like crap anywhere i'd touched it with the paddle--i put rs pro on it asap--but then when i went to peel it back a bit to repair a ding, no matter what i tried (heat, moisture etc), the tape peeled off with all paint attached! so there was something unique going on with the paint on that board--at this point the entire nose has been patched, epoxied and sprayed with hardware store paint--looks like crap, but rides great still, and it's watertight---unfortunately cant be sold for much given this---it's a keeper!

btw--youd think id have looked into this, but where are the sunova boards made? i know thailand, but are they also made at cobra??

now wetsuits---rinse em every time--shampoo em at end of each of their "seasons"---dried salt saturated neoprene cant be good--and the few times ive not rinsed the suit feels stiffer and compromised

fork! still havent been out on the acid--got small, super bumpy crap on jan 1 and surfed my airborn, afraid to try the supposedly tippier acid

the acid construction looks beautiful--further, steve, i bet the rails are very solid---i had already ordered rsp jumbo when i read your post, and I hesitated to put it on the board after reading, and feeling the weight of the rsp---not light at all!

but i put in on anyway--never had a ding where rsp was installed, and had plenty on unprotected rails--even right next to spot that had rsp on them

stuff works great---blows away the standard fare

My cheap Atlantas boards have never had a issue. Paint is perfect, always goes in wet and not washed from the ocean. They don't sit in the weather and not long on the roof rack.

Could be just the dye out of board bag, if its a bother replace rail tape. If its mould you're still going have to remove tape, try soapy water to start, if that doesn't work use a little chlorine diluted (don't get it under your deck grip it'll lift it)
