I have a Naish 11.4 great for flatwater and goes ok in the surf! I find it a bit long so Im thinking the PSH 11.0 would surf better than my 11.4but I demo'd a 10.6 wide on flatwater only and I am sure this thing would rip for a big guy like me
I wanted an alL rounder ,hence my 11.4,but now I would rather surf than flatwater paddle! Advice PLEASE !

thanks mac

Hey Mac. Love the 10'6 wide and am starting to get it wired after a few weeks outa the water with work etc. Mate i'm 110ish (maybe 115 after all the easter eggs i've eaten, cheers Paul) As you know i started on the 11'6 Naish and i have surfed some good size waves on that rig. As far as surfability?? goes, the 1ft dropped from the 11'6 and the volume loss make for a much more agressive board. Just check out the volume difference in the tail of the Naish 11' boards and mine. Two plus one set up all good too. Swapped out the standard fins for Shapers 6.5 centre and s-5 sides. Noice...

The 9'6 wide was a bit too much in the rough stuff but i still have a bit of swim in the chop on the 10'6 wide. Have another week off over easter so should have her sorted by then. Pauls got a demo 9'6 wide at Roar, If that dont suit contact me and take my 10'6 for a rip. It would be better to go for the 10'6 than the 11 but if you can handle the 9'6.....why not?

Nah, I had a choice of all white, all red, white with yellow rails and white with blue rails. White looks sweet but obviously marks easier. Very happy with the PSH. Leaves the big Naish for dead.

Yeah Dogman. The front of the finbox lines up at about the half way point on the sides, so yeh, the fins could almost line up!. Only had a few surfs on the PSH, So looking foward to some fine tuning.

im 85kg and i have the PSH 10.6AA and i reckon it would be a good board for your weight , im far from a ripper and ill bet this board could do a lot more.

If you catch me at the Alley on a weekend your welcome to try 62.

Hi Mac,

You asked for my opinion so hear it is warts and all!

I have tried the following PHS boards over the last 6 weeks and 7 others to boot. I am not going to the surfing olympics or a gun surfer just someone with a lot of passion for the sport and also recovering from a spinal injury. I wanted a board I can ride in all conditions but would challenge my skills and fitness.

my Specs 6ft 105kg used to ride big ass longboards couldnt ride a shorty to save my life.

I tried 13 boards before I chose the 10'6 wide AA, which gave me stability but also loose performance once i changed the fin set. I put in PC7 inside foil fins and replaced the center fin with the PC7 and used FCS to finbox adaptor.

This is what I discovered in order of tests:

The PSH 10'6 AA I had it for 1 week surfed it 5 times Floats me with absoutely no problems. Can paddle it fine in the flat water, kick turns easily and I was impressed with the quality of the finished product. Can paddle it in the surf but need to paddle hard all the time to avoide the death wobbles and in wind cross chop etc, not practicle for me as it just wasnt much fun. Would be great for someone with more skill and fitness or less weight.

The 11ft PHS had it for 2 weeks surfed it every night and 3 to 4 times on the weekends. I had 2 different guys try the board that were over 120kg and it floated them easily. A friend Adam tried it after his NSP 11 and would not give it back he loved it so much (ferrari VS commodore) I surfed the board in all conditions including: 25kn offshore, 30kn onshore in 4ft slop and cross chop and could still stand on and catch the crappy waves on offer. The guys in the line up that day were pissing themselves laughing watching me being blown backwards if I stopped paddling for a second.

On the 25knt offshore day Robdog also rode the 11 as we swapped boards and I tried his PSH 10'6 Wide AA. Robdog liked the PSH 11 too as it performs in the worst conditions imaginable and for a board that size if you fit PC7 fins and use a thruster set up it rocks! IMHO its far better than the laird, the Kalama and the naish and I tried them all over about 3 months.

The psh 11 caught small waves easily and I had one session at Urqharts in 1.5 overhead that will be in the memory bank for all time. The bigger it got the better this board went i loved it. BUT you need 105kgs plus in my opinion to get the board to work due to its volume. Paddles fast in flat water and to me is a great beginners board because it covers all bases, flat water surf and throw a cild on the board with you to paddle on the river no problem at all.

PSH 10'6 Wide AA Well after riding Robdogs I bought this board! The reason is it was really loose for me again I have 105kg to motivate it, I could paddle it and catch waves in all the conditions (almost as easily as the 11) I usually get around here. It was a challange for me initially as it was quite unstable compared to the PSH 11 but I wanted something that I could eventually rip and this was far looser for me. I have now surfed my one 8 times and I love it. I also changed this board to a thruster set up and for me it works really well and turns on a dime. Others say it shouldnt work with these fins, I dont give a SH1T i like i that way and it works for me.

PSH 9'6 Wide AA I paddled Rich's board at 13th beach in less than ideal conditions with wind and cross chop and it was hard to paddle onto waves on my 10'6 wide AA. I was amazed how stable it was and how easily it floated me at 105kg. Dont get me wrong again I had to paddle all the time but it paddled really fast probably faster than my 10'6 wide AA no idea wide it just did. In clean conditions I beleive I could easily paddle this into waves and it was extremely loose underfoot for me. It is my goal to progress onto this board but I lack both the fitness and the skill to do it justice at this point. I would buy one in a heart beat when I get fitter.

I have to say the PSH boards changed my mind totally about what I could and could not ride. I was able to nose ride the 10'6 wide AA and I have no skill at all in that area, it just locks in allows my 105kg to sit on the nose. The hard rails etc suggest this shouldnt happen but hey it does just go figure.

You hear all the BS about stability with surfability, well for this black duck the PSH boards deliver on that statement.

Mac that's my honest no BS assement, I'm no team rider just a hack.

Best regards

Phill

Wow Phil, thanks for your honest option and board reviews!
I've been watching (videos) and reading your posts and IMO,you sound
like you know whotsup,so with this in mind I value your comments!
Its like, you've done all the hard work, in and out of the water and saved

I am thinking more and more 10.6!
Thanks again OG rip the baggs out of it

Mac,

I was lucky enough to meet Allrounder and Rich at the Vicco Sup titles. Allrounder was coaching me during the heat whilst still having enough time to woop everyone else (laughs hes a great guy). Then a heap of guys from Sea Breeze( thanks to all of them) all said 10'6 Wide. But being hard headed doofus I had to find out for myself.

Matty, Murf and Dave (Imperial Surfboards) have put up with endless questions about why does this work or not work? What is the best fin to use etc etc etc etc.

Robdog from Portland kindly allowed me, a guy he didnt know at all to take his pride and joy out in the worst offshore of all time.

The Guys at SHQ particularly Paul kindly allowed me to try thier demo boards, they are about 100kms away from me by the way so lets say at least they were very trusting. So I bought the board from them to thank them for thier support.

I cant thank Rich at Strapper enough either he has also has been so helpfull wih input and info.

So all I did was collate the info and be the crash test dummy which I think is my lot in life.

Everyone seemed to want to know what a gumby who couldnt surf thought, rather than a guy that could rip so I volunteered.

Mate if it saves you some time and gets you the right board then we all win.

I have heard great things about the Naish 9'6 but didnt get that far as I fell in love with the 10'6 wide, it was just meant to be.

The thing I learned is that most people on the Breeze are generous with their time and thoughts because they truely love the sport and want others to get the same fun stoke whatever you call it that they get. I hope that neva changes.

Best wishes

Phill

Just to confuse the issue I got the 9 6 Ripper and struggled with it to start with, but have it wired now in most conditions. It is outstanding in any size surf but hard work. BC has just finished a 10'AA Wide, will be available in August. If you are in no hurry that is the one I would go for. Well I have already ordered one for the choppy days. I am 105kg.

Bugger the Hawaiians, Vietnamese, Thais, Chinese, whatever you know what you are after mac, stand out from the crowd and buy a locally shaped board to your specs. that's what the Rudd bonus is all about - you won't be disappointing.

Cheers Oliver,I understand where your coming from but,the RUDD bonus is not coming my way infact nobody in this house will see a cent!
IMHO, the Hawaiians know their sh-t when it comes to surfing,so its a import for me at this stage! Keep in mind if I buy it from a local store, they will inturn spend that money locally! So it goes around!
