Now that I have my new 14' Glide for down-winders and my 10' Mana for the waves it had me thinking about my big 11'6" AST that I love so much.
I have this board for my daughter and friends to use.. and to be honest it's my most used board for my daily paddles around St Kilda marina and along the Yarra river.
Also I miss my 12' Glide so much.. I thought why not upgrade my 11'6" AST to the 12' Glide AST.. It will be a much better board for flat water paddling... So I did.
Here's some pics that I took yesterday on my first paddle on the 12' Glide AST... It's a great looking board.. IMO.
I put my board on the grass that the little bugs in the grass came out to check it out.. I've never seen them do that before.. Maybe it's the colour.
Even though it's not a gun the shape looks so gunny.
It's so stable and easy to paddle.. and I love the look of that long pointy nose.
I love to cruise around on flat water and just go exploring and looking for fish and checking out the rocks.. The cliffs along Beaumaris are so interesting.
Up near the boat ramps that water gets really glassy and you can see how that pointy nose cuts through the water.
This is where I bumped into Plill from Ocean Grove one day and he jumped on for a paddle.. Work clothes and all.
I spotted something in the water up ahead.
Anyone missing a breast implant?
Time to pack up and head off to work.. It was a thunder stormy kind of day but beautiful when the sun came out.
One more stop on my way home to show the boards beautiful lines.. Meeeooow!
Hey DJ, I could tell you were missing your 12 Glide mate. I don't know what it was, your posts sounded a little bit meloncholy. I'm glad you got another one and with more of your favourite yellow as well. You sound better already.
What is the difference in this ast vs the white one in the for sale area of this forum
Just the colour or was the white one a demo.
Paul.. The white Glides are a wood/carbon construction.. They're a bit lighter and have a slightly better quality and finish.. and cost a few hundred $ more.
The yellow AST boards are an AST construction (advanced sandwich technology)and are slightly heavier and have a mat finish.. and are a bit cheaper..
Hey DJ, couple of questions if you do not mind, have they changed the shape of the 2010 12' glide at all from last year? Is the AST much heavier than your 2009 one? Does the 2010 ast one come with a cover? If I just want a fastish board for a bit of flat water training when there are no waves, not downwinders and no races would you go 12' or 14' ast? Is it fast compared with your old 11'6"?? Sorry so many questions Cheers...

No probs with the questions..
To be honest it (the AST) does not really feel any heavier.. I think you would need both side by side to notice it.
I was very curious to see if they had changed anything between the 09 and the 2010 12' Glides.
I was sorta hoping that they had made the rails not so sharp towards the nose area because they can catch in rough conditions.. but they seem the same.
For some odd reason I think they have changed the nose rocker somehow.. Maybe it's the different graphics (no wood block in the nose) but it seems different.
My AST did not come with a cover but I noticed that on the new Naish site it says that it does??.. I'll get the guys at SHQ to look into that.
I think the 12' Glide would be the best board for you.. It is better to paddle than the 11'6" AST.. and defiantly faster.
The 14'er has so much nose rocker and that is needed for down-winders but causes it to push water a little on flat water.. The 14'er feels like a big board.
It will be interesting to see what is faster out of the 12' and 14' Glides on flat water.. I should know the answer soon.
A few people paddled the 12 and 14 side by side at the Roar demo today and I think most would disagree with the 12 being better on the flat water. I am sure Firstpoint would be the best to comment as he did an extensive test of both (read we had to wait a while for the boards to return)
