Amazing story, love the casual way he sounds about the start.

It's pretty insane to do that unaided and without any connection to the world except an emergency beacon. That's a pretty grim stretch of water at this time of year - it's dark and dank with short days and cold air and water, and the weather is very changeable with some strong winds about. It must have taken some giant nuts to set off on your own into that, with nearly 40 hours of paddling ahead of you. There are so many ways that that could have gone horribly wrong.
