Hi everyone. Trying to sort out which sup to purchase. I'm nearly 55 y/o, 6' and about 89 kg which is a bit heavy for me, usually 80-85 kg. Looking for a sup to mainly use in the surf around the OG to Torquay area in Vic.

Been surfing for 40 odd years, the last few years longboards only. More into into glide than ripping. Not into big waves....too bloody old now for that!

Anyway, thanks to this forum I've basically decided that a Naish 11'4, Star-board 11'2, PSH 11' -11'6 or the Walden 10'10 might be the go.

Like the look of the Walden but haven't seen any comments on the forum about this brand.

Did look at the Naish 11'6 at SHQ but hell it looked like a mothership at 5 1/2" thick!

Would love some feedback/suggestions.

The Walden is OK and not a bad design for a 1st SUP but the finish isnt that great compared to the other boards you list.

I started out on an 11'4 Naish and it gets 2 thumbs up from me as an excellent board. I am the same height and weight as you and found it perfect for some flat water paddleing and getting into the surf. I am sure I never reached its limit before I steped down to something shorter.

Well worth it, and the retain value really well if you want to move to something different once you progress, however with this board there is not a real need to.

Have you tried looking at the Oxbow 11'0". It's a great first board - especially for a longboarder and is good value for money.

I recently test drove the new Walden 9'11". It is a very diferent animal to the 10'10".
The 10'10" apeared to be their first real attempt at a production SUP. The 10'10" is a pretty good beginners board(it is over 30 inches wide)with a so so deck pad , colour scheme and no handle. Having said that, jeez it floats well and genuinely surfs.
The 9'11" on the other hand has a great colour scheme, full attractive deck grip, a well placed handle and goes like the clappers. The crew at Walden have stepped up to the plate and produced a hot rod! It traversed collapsing white water sections with lightness and finess,it enabled real live off the lip re entries and rockin cutties/laybacks. I'm not the worlds best supper by any means but the new Walden helped me imagine that I was just for a little while.

If you live down that way why don't you consider getting a 10'6" Stonker. Should be fine for your weight, plenty of glide in the surf, works fine in flat water also and you are supporting locals. I'm really happy with my board.

I bought it 6 months ago for about $1,900. The dimensions are 10'6" x 30" x 4 3/4" It's got a tri fin setup and I'm using a 9" mal center fin.

Hi Pete!
I tried both the 11'6'' and 11'4'' - I am at 80kg also mainly surfing. The 11'6'' was definitely on the big side. The 11'4'' fit the bill perfectly as it is much thinner, allows for a thruster setup and and reminds of a classic longboard when riding it. I liked that it has a smaller thinner tail which seems to allow for more speed on the wave compared to a lot of the boards with the big square tails. It also already came with a bag as well as a pad.
