Hi Guys,

Is this board a decent option as a first SUP for my girlfriend? She is around 53kg. I dont want to get something that she will really struggle with and end up getting frustrated.

May be a little wide and 'yawish'-will be quite stable-my wife (55kg)started on a 906 PSH Wide Ripper and found it a bit of a challenge but perseverance will overcome the initial challenge.

Depends where she's gonna' paddle etc.

Might be a bit small for her. I found when my wife and I started out anything around 11ft x 30 inch was good for learning, ocean paddling and small way riding.

Tried the starboard whopper which was super stable but did not glide too well (10ft x 34inches) for those ocean paddles.

Demo some if you can to get a feel before you buy.

Wifey at 53kg ish loved the 9 8 starboard now on 9 6 W Ripper, wish i was 50 odd kg rather than 105

It depends on your girlfriends ability, I have a 8'5 starboard that my girlfriend @ 52kg can paddle no worries, she has mainly paddle flat water but has no trouble in small waves

Hi,

I have a 9' by 30'' Starboard and think she should be fine on it. I find it really stable and best of all it is so much easier to carry than a longer board!!!!! I think that after starting out with bit of flat water paddling and practice it won't take her long to feel comfortable on it. Its great fun in the waves.
