I don't know if anyone has posted this video yet.
It may inspire a few more to give it a crack in 2010

Hey good find.
Be interesting to see what boards people will be using in the 2010 race.
Still undiecided if I will enter yet. I might do a couple more downwinders see how I pull up.

Hey Stewart,
I'm keen to train for it, then regardless of whether I end up doing it or not I'll be fitter and had plenty of water time
I'm also keen to do some more downwinders like saturday, keep in touch.
Cheers,
Adam

How did you guy's go on Sat? Did you do the Mandurah run? Would have been great conditions, loved to have been there but delivering(well, watching) baby number 3.
Keen to do the Rotto race but not sure about my endurance, it will be about 4 hours on a fairly bumpy patch of water. Did everyone make it last year?

Luke, Stewart and I headed down to Mandurah. I think it was about an 8km paddle with the wind directly at the back. Had a great time and keen to do more.
Congratualtions on baby number 3!!
I think everyone made it last year, those that did it would know more than me.

I am absolutely spewing that I cannot do this race. Got to go to South Africa for a wedding

If anyone is thinking of doing it I would say go for it, this is probably the only time you will be able to do the paddle so why not make the most of it.

PS congrats on baby # 3

South Africa to Perth, now that would be a big downwinder!! Good chance to try out a new 14 footer! What are you looking at getting?

It the moment lined up a test paddle on a 14 foot Joe Bark and also looking at the 12'6 full carbon Hobie. But figure with the Hobie it will be too similar to my 12'6 Pin.

I think Dale Chapman might be heading over for this. I might be, too, but its too early to tell for me.

He will be taking over his DC14/17 depending on the conditions. If I go I will take my DC16. What would you say the typical conditions would be for the doctor race - short/choppy or long/ocean period swells?

Best person to ask would be Courtney Gray, he won it last year.

No worries Adam
More downwinders will be great. Definately paddle the Mandurah downwind again.
Jenkz had his 12ft glide catching a few good runners.
Cheers

Have to do a run up your way Adam. Will keep a eye on the forecast and be in touch.
Congratulations on your many sleepless nights to come P co.

Mikeman the conditions on video are fairly calm to what you would normally expect. There was a fair bit of SSE in the breeze last year which made us paddle fairly constantly on the left hand side. The "Doctor" really didnt show up.
Normally you get a bit of a rolling swell with a lot of short sharp wind chop. Its not often Perth gets good swell in January. If we get the normal 20-25 knots it will be great.

Great video Hawkie. It brought back some good memories. See the helicopter view of Ian towing us behind his boat to the start line
Im hoping to do it but again no training for me though. I dont have the time
If Im going to do it, its just to say I did it. If I start it I want to finish it.
But honestly the more I think about it the more I dont want to do it

Cheers - it sounds like the shorter boards (12'6" range) would be better in those conditions. the 16/17 range like open ocean swells better.

Like you Akhawk, would be interested in training with the intention of entering but see how I'm tracking in a month and see if it is realistic without killing myself.

As part of the event, there is also a relay race from freo to Hillarys in teams of 2 for those that would rather do that.

Definitely keen to go for a paddle, maybe Saturday morning? At the moment I only have a 10' but am trying to convinve the boss maybe a 12'6 would be the perfect size for her to learn on with absolutely no ulterior motives.
