Going in a series of races next year one of which involves a flat out 200m sprint. I have a 12'6" and a 14' boards and was wondering would the 12'6" actually be faster overall as it is lighter so should get away quicker or would the longer boards run me down later. What would you take?

If it was me id b jumping on both boards now and time urself which ever one is faster start training on that board, rack up as much time on the water as u can on ur chosen board. Id imagine 14 will b quicker but depends on the boards too I guess.

If the boards are both designed for flat water and are of similar width, the 14' will be much faster over 200 metres. Oddly enough though, I have found a 17'6" Starboard Sprint is not necessarily faster over 200 metres compared with a 14' Sprint. Beyond 200 metres and it's no contest. And it's not about the weight of the board as they are both about the same weight.

It will depend if you can get the board planning PC. If you can get the board planning (and keep it planning over 200m), then weight will likely be the dominating factor. If you can't get the board planning, then waterline is your friend. The longer the better...
