Thanks Jodie. However I will correct some of the details you wrote.

The regatta will be held opposite the United Service Station (past the Surf Club) on The Esplanade at Hervey Bay.

Just confirming that the SUP's will only be offered the Short Course 8km race on the day. 4km out and 4km back. However the course is subject to change depending on prevailing or anticipated weather condition. There will be NO LONG COURSE OFFERED FOR SUP.

Please be advised that we will be starting 1/2 hr before the canoes so therefore race start time is 9.30am. Race Times are subject to change depending on the number of nominations received.

There will be only 2 categories for this first race as numbers expected are not high. So there will be 12'6" & Under and then Unlimited.

There will be no age categories for this first race but the remainder of races will be offering two age categories. Being Under 40 & Over 40. As numbers really improve we will eventually include a larger range of age categories. But not for this first race.

I'll wait and see what the confirmed course is and what the wind is doing at race time. We all know that paddling above 13 -15 knots into a headwind is not much fun on a SUP. Its been northerly chop here for the last few days which is a big change from the smoooooth southerly of the fast disappearing winter.
The only downwinds you can do in Hervey Bay is a Urangan to Pialba in an Easterly, and a fun Pt Vernon across the bay to Scarness in a northerly, and without the swell of the open ocean, theres a bit of oompf missing. Not sure what Kaipuna OCC has planned for the SUPs.
Been caught out a few times on the return leg in Hervey Bay.
If I dont currently belong to an outrigging or SLSC club, what are my options for registration? Does anyone know? (re: insurance cover etc)

Thanks Rambo...$20 is a bargain!

MIKO...we are in the process of buying boards more specifically meant for surfing.
When we had our boards made in late 2006, we and INFRONT at Burleigh were still learning the difference between a board for cruising and with max gliiiiiiiide, and boards that work the waves.
So no...we havent been to DI but as soon as we get our new boards (a few weeks away), we'll do it ASAP.
Get sick of so many people saying its the perfect spot. Our boards do well with a nice little wave like First Point or Laguna...but they are still super corky with the fattest rails you've ever seen.
Maybe see you this weekend.

Just received this message from the Organisers regarding registration tomorrow for the race.

Please ensure that you have your Credit Card and ID with you for registering to paddle at Hervey Bay as the new registration system is in place.

Not sure why the credit card. Might be just as a security in case people race in the Series and don't pay on the day ??

Looking forward to catching up with some of you tomorrow and meeting new members who are going.

Race starts at 10am. Make sure you leave time to register before hand.
Please Register, or first...
