Got the new board bug....

Considering a few boards. Like the look of the nsp dc 14, but looks like the "cheaper" coco mat versions only come in 29inch wide. Having as yet not demoed one, would like others thoughts on whether it would be considered too wide for a 175cm, approx 75kg me. Currently paddling a 14 x 25 ace without any issues, but looking for something more for down winding and possibly some small surf. 14 or 12'6" is another thought. New glide is 29 wide and may be too wide also. Third thought is the falcons....

Any thoughts appreciated...understand it's personal opinion and will attempt to demo

Cheers

You're not tall or heavy, if you're handling the ACE ok (you look to be on the DW vids) the 29" would be would be more width than you need.

Depends if you want to race/be fast or more cruise and have an easy ride. 29' Glide will be super comfortable and easy for you on a downwind run, you'll never have to brace or feel like you are tiring due to balancing. A narrower board will be faster though, if you are really competitive and highly skilled the 23' LE will be virtually unbeatable - so really depends what you are after. 26 LE is out in a month or two and will be a happy medium for you.

I thought so.... That cuts my choices down. Do like the sound of those narrower nsps but can't justify almost 4 g's. Now falcon or wait for the new allstars....

Cheers guys

Don't think you will find the all stars much cheaper the falcons are a bit cheaper or just go custom and get a 26.3/8 wide

If downwinding is what you are chasing then the fanatic is not just good but flys DW!! When Jake Jensen was asked about this boards when he first git on to them he said in his words"no one will beat me downwind on this board" and to date he has won every event he he has entered with dw in it and thats racing the best guys in the world!!! The joy with this board is its just at home in the flat water.

For me it has made dw'ing even more fun with how easy it is to use!!

Have to agree with Jacko, for DW the New Falcon loves the bumps. I can't comment on how the others go and I'm sure there are some good boards out there but I rode the new 14'x24" in 38 knot sw from Flinders to Point Leo on Sunday night with a solid 6' swell running across the runners and the board just loved it.

Both Starboard and Fanatic offer their cheaper construction in narrower widths so you won't be forced to sell the farm to get on a DW board that you like.

I don't agree. If you have an opportunity to try this board then try it, as it might just be the one for you. Try as many boards as you can. Everyone is different and there are a lot of variables. If you want to enjoy your downwinding more then probably the 14' is the shortest you should aim for imo.
