It's a nice board at 9-8 x 30" wide and a really pulled in tail , I think this board has some huge potential for the 90+kg guys who want to get down in size. Nice tough construction and the built in full length grip is great which makes it good value when you don't have to add another $150 to the board cost for the grip.

I bought the 9'8" pin tail 6 weeks ago. Before that I had a Jimmy Lewis 11' since Nov '07. I weigh 73kg & feel that it's a good board for the smaller guys as well, especially if you're usually only riding small stuff, like the average Perth supper does (1' average in summer, 1-3' being about the norm in winter).
It's very stable (almost as stable as my 11-footer), paddles well for its size, naturally a lot more manoeuvrable than the 11-footer, & can be spun around quickly.
A lot of guys here seem to be going for the 10'5" *board, so it probably boils down to: what size are you, & what size waves are you going to be riding?

I have just recently turned over my 9'8 fish tail to the new 9'8 pin tail. It has now been a couple of months and I have had quite a few sessions on the new board to make some observations.
Firstly I find the board has more glide, when either cruising around from break to break or when paddling for a wave. This bit of extra glide also translates into a bit more board speed on the wave, the pin tail seems to give the board a cleaner release and with a bit of pumping through the legs the board gathers more speed down the face. For me this is one of the biggest advantages over the fish tail.
At 78kg the stability is pretty similar when standing in the paddling position, the 30" at the wide point still does its job well. However step back a little and you do notice that it is a bit less stable and will roll on the pin tail. When on a wave this is another feature that makes this version much better than the previous. I prefer a shorter board as I find them much easier to foot steer on a wave and with the pin tail it makes it even easier to transition from rail to rail.
I just spent the weekend down south WA and we had some near perfect conditions with some nice shoulder to head high glassy waves. What really impressed me was that I could do the same style of bottom turn as on a sailboard, leaning hard over the rail and driving the board through the turn. Once your foot is at the back of the board it becomes really responsive, so from a full lean on the paddle to turn back from the lip was super easy. The little bit of extra nose rocker also helped with taking some later drops and coming back down the face to line up for another bottom turn.
I mostly ride the board around metro Perth and find this size suits me as a good all round board with a bit more of a bias towards short board waves than the 10'5 or 11'2.

hey thanks guys after the first couple of waves i whated to buy this board and your feedback has pushed me over the line to buying one. im 93 kg and i found that it still worked for me and as you said it turns on a dime. thanks once again guys.

hey swaine im on the gold coast. and molly ive got a 10'3 jerry so im looking for something under 10 foot. i love the jerry in 6 foot plus but im looking for a board for the smaller days. and after surfing it on sunday i think this is the one, tell something else come's along. ive got to spot going to demo days.
