Here's my first effort downwinding on the Starboard New. The board wasn't designed for this but does surprisingly well.

Nice vid Paul.. I was also surprised how well it went.. for a board shaped like a Dutch Clog..

When you fell 'out' was it hard to get back 'in' .. [}:)]

It actually was very hard to get back "in" after falling. And what you don't see is that in climbing on, I dropped my paddle and lost 5 minutes paddling back into the wind and current to retrieve it.

SORRY ! I know this will start all sorts of Red thumbs etc.
BUT I DONT GET IT!! Is it a canoe or a board?
Why have all that volume, out of the water?
I sorta understand the centre of gravity thing.
BUT why have all that volume (= weight)
wouldnt the same be acheived with the complete deck
being convcave (a'la canoe)
Sorry I just think its a gimmik to sell technology that isnt
that much necessary.
A bit like a table fork with 4 prongs....is it better than 3??

Personally, I won't use a fork with 3 prongs. Has to be 4.

Love your work Paul.

I hold you and DJ responsible for my ever growing wish list of new boards.

I have only been SUPing a month or so and am already trying to work what my next board and paddle will be...

Very deft footwork Paul

You were handling the board really well. I recently spent a few hours in the cockpit of the same board and could only imagine the difficulty of spearing one off on a D/W run!

You'll be dancing all over a S/B 14 Surf Race.

Well done PTWoody great vid, it must be hard standing in those foot-wells but you got some nice little runners.
One day when I get to Victoria after I've had a surf at Bells Beach, Winki Pop, Easter Reef. I'll come for a Downwinder with you Guys.

Phil, that would be cool to join us on a Melb bay down-winder.. I can arange a 14' Glide and Kialoa paddle for you.. .. I've got a big Nalu that you can use.
