With a south west winds forcast for the next few days I'm thinking of doing a different kind of down wind run. Maybe from Flinders to Somers..

It will be more serious than our Port Phillip Bay runs and more fun because we should get some big waves and much more of the feeling of the open ocean.

Is anyone else keen?

Yeah i reckon. Looks like its about 20km. Be good with a nice sw

Few Q's, are there suitable bail out spots along each coast? Any sufbreaks to negotiate? Also, hows the water temp down there, wear a steamer or Short John?

Probably short John, unless there is big wind chill... or if you expect to be falling off a little, maybe steamer. Water temp is about 19.5c.

Bail out points will be behind Point Leo, and after Merricks, but if you made it towards Merricks, you might as well finish it off. But if a person bailed, there is added logistics of trying to find them, or risk of losing someone....

Wait for DJ's response.

I'd love to join in, but it's a bit far from Torquay, and expensive via Car Ferry.

There's heaps of bail out options along the way but bailing out is not something I'm planing on doing and what to wear will depend on the day.

I'm in, what day are you thinking of DJ. The other one I've always thought might work in these conditions is picking a start and finish between Lorne and Torquay. Bail out?? Isn't that something you do with a bucket
