I went to the MCG on the weekend to see the Mighty Blues give the Tigers a hiding. It was a great arvo, the MCG is the best venue I have been to. 65000 people (52000 at a sold out origin last night) and you don't line up for anything. Not for a wee, a beer or a pie all things that matter...... So well built, unreal, families everywhere not just yobbos!

I kind of wasnt in to AFL at all before that, one game has opened my mind, it's so much better live than on Telly, I reckon League is better on TV than live except for State of Origin.

It's got me into it again. I'm gonna start following Carlton like i did when I played under 5's.

AFL is OK, it's not that bad at all.........

MCG is great but on a cold and rainy day, an indoor stadium is the way to go. We have one of those too.

Yeah everyone tells me Etihad is even better. But sitting in the winter sun warm as toast with a cold beer or 5 and so many people cheering was magical.

It brought out my inner bogan and I loved it!

I agree, have been to a couple of Swans matches and they are heaps better live.

Now my youngest son plays and after watching him and his brother play the 4 main codes this is IMO the best of the lot for kids. No ball hogging, has the physicallity of league and union without the nasty hits and allows small, agile kids like mine the chance to dominate

I reckon it will smash League and Union at the grass roots level over time in non-AFL places like Sydney - plus it is a true Aussie sport.

I am a Swans supporter. Only been following it for a few years after having the game explained by friends. Still a bit vague on a lot of rules. Umpiring seems a bit dodgey a lot o the time as well. A mate has described it as " seagulls chasing a chip"

Greatest game on earthJust ask special K. He wrote an article in the local about how he finds AFL physically much harder than league , as far as recovery after matches go. Both good games , but AFL does accomidate all shapes and sizes so good for kids. But if i had boys id be guiding them into surfing not collission sports as you pay for it when you get older. Not to many old footballers you talk to that dont have some type of problem with Knees , hips , backs ect ect.

afl live hands down winner. an occasion- rugby tests- probaby better to play than watch in general except for the ENTERTAINING REDS- go the reds. league- grew up playing it, but can only be bothered watching orgin now. i still know all about it, hard to get away from with news limited owning league

Yeah I already have my 5yo asking when he can get his own SUP board bug luckily he's not asking about Auskick!

His Pop has had double knee replacement at 58yo due to AFL career.

I was just wondering whether the massive interest in Origin as a pure contest over and above the NRL competition is largely due to News Limited owning the league. Does it give the impression of a compromised competition? The AFL is also heavily compromised as the fixture is completely driven by the desire to maximise attendances and TV ratings at the expense of fairness in a sporting sense.

I suspect it's going to be a lot closer than you think. No, not the game result, just whether I choose to DW or put myself through the pain of a Collingwood game. Not much in life worse than spending time surrounded by obnoxious Collingwood supporters. [}:)]
