Those of you who have now got your copies of Australian Paddle Surfer issue #1 and have had a chance to read through it, I’d love to hear some feedback from you. This will help with product development and make issues #2 and beyond, even better.

Don’t hold back, I can take it. Criticism is as constructive as praise. What bits don’t do it for you? Did you have delivery problems? Did you find a mistake? Was some of it boring? Did you have a problem with the quality? Please be specific and as detailed as possible.

Post your negative review points here (positive ones can go in the other thread):

Constructive criticism-too Sydney Centric-would be great to get a sense of what's going on elsewhere in OZ and perhaps Asia and NZ-I'm happy to be sent on any travel assignments....

Be good to see photos from all over OZ etc.-I'm sure you'll get heaps more content submissions now that the first issue is out-I would look towards Surfers Journal for an idea of the type of stories etc. to run.

Excellent work.

Hmmmmm,(Disclaimer) I would like to refer to comments on page 17 that suggested Robbo and Damo said "Queenslanders and Victorians surf like ladies."
I totally denie having said that. What I did say was" Queenslanders and Victorians surf like nannas."LOL All jokes guys,
Robbo

I ordered it 2 days ago and I haven't got it yet.

I hope I don't find it too sydneycentric. And if BP has anything to do with it, it will be my last copy.

For $9.95 I don't really care - I hope it works for you.

Hi Casso,

Love the mag! Especially Ali's 'first wave' story. I could totally relate to the buzz she got!

My comment is just a suggestion. I was reading another (fairly local) surf mag today and they run a permanent section in the back that gives a rundown of what is happening at each of the local clubs, ie a summary of their pointscores, latest comps, upcoming events, couple of pics etc. (A few of the 'horsey' mags that I subscribe to do the same thing too).

I think there are enough SUP clubs up and running now to make that a viable option in your mag. We are all sticky beaks so I am sure I am not the only one who would be happy to read in every edition a bit about what the vic club is up to or the Noosa one etc etc.

Congrats on a great mag!
Mel

Our excuse in Vicco (for surfing like nannas) is that it is ###ing cold if you fall in mid-winter - so sometimes discretion is the better part of valour!

Only negative feedback from me is...

There's no Reef Brazil ad!

Every surf mag needs a Reef ad for the boyz!

I agree all mags should advertise Reef.

Not sure what the going market stats say regarding how many times a mag gets read but I got my copy (265) on Friday night when I got back from the Wharf Bar and its been read cover to cover by 8 people now. 6 of them do not SUP - although they have had a couple of goes on mine.

Basically everyone thinks its a great first effort. We would like to see some form of environmental slant in future issues - I am more than happy to give ya some ideas, get you some great people to interview or we could even provide some journalists who have written lots of cool stuff in recent times in the surfing mags in this area. Lots of passionite people are available. Let me know.

Some road trip stories are always a welcome addition to any mag. Maybe its not too late to get yourself on a plane to PNG - I spent 3 months working there a few years back and that place is well worth a trip!

Keep up the great work.

Congratulations on a great mag. The biggest positive is it's ours (well mostly yours, but you're one of us) and we can relate to content.

Negatives
- A few of the pictures are a bit dark or out of focus (not including the arty ones that are supposed to be dark and fuzzy).
- A couple pages of around the country news would be good.
- The board review should have a bunch of illustrative photos of the board (not just an action shot and the deck shot in the ad on the opposite page).
- I like board reviews where there's a mini-interview with the designer so he can throw his two cents worth in.
- Given where SUP-ing is at then a series of technique articals focusing on basic techniques and tips would be good.
- A mini-classified section where SUP shapers can put in a free ad so we can try and support local shapers.

Received mine today :)

Have not had chance to read it yet, but first impressions.....
Purely on a quick flick-through like you might do at the newsagents to see if you wanna buy it

Front cover; makes you wanna pick it up... nice matt finish, great Pic!
Some Great Photos through out ... but out of focus, some dark and looking a bit fakey from photoshop?

Look forward to reading the articles

In the final word bit you left out:

- Spending time thinking up the perfect snappy comeback to put the grumpy old mal rider in his place and win the respect of all the short-boarders.

You could have a shaper of the month. It would publicise their designs and make it easier for us to choose to support locals.

Do an interview. Get them to explain their SUP ideas. A few board pics. A centrefold shot ...

Great Mag Casso
Love it as is and am sure it will only get better. One thing, and maybe its just me, but captions for a following double page multi pic spread just dont cut it for me. I need the captions on the same page or each picture numbered and corresponding to the appropriately numbered caption, if that caption is not on the same page as the picture. (sheesh! what did I just say?) As I said, maybe I'm just a nuffy.

What are you doing at Uni there? Is it an exchange?
Go check out Borobodur had a great trip there in 97' by bus and train from Bali and back. Very touristy etc. but still pretty bloody special-there's heaps of waves on the coast S of Yogya.

I'm off to G-Land (booked and good to go) late April for a coupla' weeks-haven't been since 2004-after going regularly since early 80's so really looking forward to going back and getting stitched up by Puma !!!!
