Hi All

I am the happy owner of a nice new Starboard 11'2" and carbon paddle.

Using the eyeline to the end of the shaft rule I think the paddle is the right length for me. It is longer than any of the paddles I used when demoing. The power and paddle feel is great but it feels a little awkward when crossing sides (which I do a lot of at my current skill level.)

Question. How precise does paddle length adjustment need to be? Are people chopping off 1-2 inches or 6 inches at a time?

Question. Any suggestions about what glue to hold the handle on with? It would be nice to be able to relatively easily remove it if I need to shorten the paddle later.

Gorgo,
Stick the handle in the shaft and tape it up tightly with electrical tape. After a few paddles, when you're happy with the length, use 5 minute araldite to glue it in place. The tape works fine, in fact I've been too lazy to glue mine together, and I've used the board for two months!
I don't think paddle length is an exact science for this type of paddling, just go with what feels right. Just don't cut it too short to start with!
DJ recommends that when you're paddling the 'power' part of the stroke, your hand on the t-bar should be about level with your eyes. I would agree with this.

Hey Gorgo I have the 11'2 and carbon paddle as well.
I have already cut the paddle down and glued it using 5min araldite but I found it still too long. So I heated up the area I glued with a hair dryer. This made the glue melt and I could cut more off the shaft. But this time I didnt glue it. I used tape and have been using it for a few months like this now. Sometimes I feel that the length is perfect but other times I reckon I could cut a few more centimetres off.
Just take your time and dont cut too much off at once.
I reckon cut half a centimetre off at a time and use it for a month in different conditions. But having the shaft length at eye level would be the right place in the end. Mine is about 1.5cm still too long. But when your happy, glue it
Hope this helps.

I agree with Greenroom and JD...Take care not to jump in too quick and end up cutting it too short.

Anything different to what you're used to will feel odd at first.

IMO it's best to be a bit on the long side rather than on the short side..Because you can just paddle a bit deeper.
