I'm going to nusa dua in August ( 20-22) to a conference and thinking of going surfing ie SUP surfing week before or after. Where is good to go in August . Hire or bring my own board? I'm intermediate level.
I'll be probably be on my own or one son ( 25yo)

In Nusa Dua atm.
Staying at Novatel.
You can surf the reef off the beach for sure, but I went over to Sanur Beach for a better range of reef breaks.
About 30 mins away by cab. About $12 fare.
Rented from Jankie, quality Jimmy Lewis, boards, Stun guns and Kwads.
Have rented boards along nusa dua beach, not really a great board and I stayed on the inside.
Best conditions seem first thing.
Breaks definitely better quality over at Sanur.
Hope this helps.

Take your own and West Coast might be a good place to start.

Om Swastiastu dari Bali,
End of August is toward the end of windy season but it will go with luck...
East Coast get's on shore wind so if trades are on not good surfing.
If NO wind then yeah Sanur and Nusa Dua are the best.
You can also SUP in Jimbaran at Tora Tora that is an intermediate wave and no much surfer.
Forget about Kuta and Legian... They are beach breaks full of surfer!! Even getting out from the beach is a problem with a SUP and mostly they waves are close out..

Kuat reef have few not too busy sections but if trades are on you get strong off shore out there as the reef is so far..

We do have a list of all Surf Spot in our web site with a SUP rating too...
I mostly use Windguru for look at wind and waves, they are pretty accurate..
Any time it show easterly over 12 knots early in the morning the surf will be pretty crap!
Hope this can help.
Ciao for now.
