If you pay on credit card most banks give your money back.
Southern Cross travel insurance has a good cancelation refund policy too.

Never had an issue with Virgin with a 901 LB over many trips.

Bris to Bali. You can fly Virgin, they give you an allowance baggage of 23kg, and if you are over that, you cannot buy more allowance, they charge you $15 per Kg over the 23kg. Not even online can you buy extra baggage with Virgin. Virgin max length is 3 meters long for a board.


Jetstar, you can easy buy more baggage allowance online, when you book, or after you book, so 20 or 30 or up to 40kg no problems, they take max of 2.77m in length (if on the Airbus A330).

Ive done research last week about flying to Bali or Hawaii from Melb, and the above info is what I found out. So, if your under 23Kg in baggage Virgin would be fine, but if your over 23Kg then it could be expensive with them.

If you paid with your credit card just ring the bank who issued the card and request a chargeback. The banks have to pay out where a merchant fails to deliver goods or a service already paid for. The banks assess and take on this risk when signing on customers. Remember Ansett, that cost the big four around $160 million in chargebacks (refunds) to people who paid for flights with a credit card.

Moral here is whenever paying for something in the future or that you have to wait to receive ALWAYS pay with a credit card.

I haven't heard much about Compass Airlines for a while either.

They were operating as Strategic last year when they started doing low-cost passenger services to limited destinations and changed their name Air Australia a few months ago.

I think they were mainly an air freight services company with some local passenger services to mining towns, but not competing on major routes.

Maybe if they had stayed that way instead of diversifying into overseas/tourist passenger services they might have survived - who knows?

Rebooked with Jetstar and getting the money back through the credit card. Had travel insurance but apparently they don't cover air australia flights. Think I'll hire a board and paddle when I get over there. Jenkie looks like he has some nice JL kwads and I've always wanted to see how the 8'7" goes Thanks for all the advice. This sort of thing is ridiculous. How can a company get a license without having any $$ in reserve?
