Don't know about SUP friendly but I believe they only have the one aircraft, leased from someone-or-other. When that plane has a mechanical you don't go anywhere.
Some friends got stung a few months ago when the (then) Strategic Air jet had a problem and all flights were cancelled for several days, with no compensation or reimbursement. They ended up paying full fare on qantas to get them where they needed to go (and home again) and did their dough on the Strategic flights. OK they were cheap tickets and they were prepared to wear the risk and self-insure. Other friends who were to go with them couldn't afford buy new tickets so they had no holiday and were out of pocket their accomm costs at the destination. Bummer.
That's only one story, they might be fine most of the time.

Im flyin to Bali with em in march. When they were " Strategic " they had like an 8ft limit on boards but i jumped on the website " Air Australia " last night and checked the luggage page and there was no mention of size limits. They cant call em selves Air Australia if they dont let you take your board. Thatd be un-australian!

We went to Bali in November. We flew there with Strategic and flew back with Air Australia!!
We took a 9' and 9'6 with us as well as 2 paddles in one paddle bag and one suitcase that we shared. Payed no excess so that was pretty good.
I checked the website before we booked, then confirmed they would take the boards again when I had to call up the day before and advise them of sports equipment. Turned up to check in and they said they don't know if the boards would fit!!! They did and there was no problems................... in the end.
make sure you travel light though - I think the going rate for excess is $15 per kg?

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like it could be a goer for both places this year with those sort of prices
