All three areas have great spots for a paddle.

I can also recommend a good little motel, close to the centre of town if you want.

By the way you can't smoke in motels on the Sunshine Coast so you better get rid of that durri.

Marcel's comment about having the only SUP hire permit at cotton tree is a little misleading. The council, in their wisdom, have issued only one permit to allow commercial businesses to actively operate on the water's edge. This in turn has hobbled other SUP businesses and made trading/teaching etc much more difficult for them. That does not mean that other shops are not in a position to hire you a board, at a competitive price. At the end of the day you should shop around for the best price.

The obvious problem is that if some shops get pushed to the wall, be it by council actions or something else, the SUP industry will end up like Woolworths and Coles.

We were up there earlier in the year and were told that the only boards going outside the river mouth were from OA (that's what we were told by the couple of shops that we went to).

Other than that, there's a small surfboard repair shop (Weir's Surf Shop) around the corner from the beach on Memorial Ave that hires out old mals & shortboards for spare change - nice guys too.
A couple of car hire shops are along Horton Pde from memory?

We stayed at the Mylos Apartments if you're interested too, not a bad dig & close to the beach & pubs!

No worries Marcel. I wasn't having a go at you or the shop, in fact I find the staff at Ocean Addicts to be more than friendly and helpful. While I understand the commercial implications I just felt that people travelling to the Sunshine Coast need to be made aware that there are plenty of SUP/Kiteboard shops around for them to consider. Helps to keep things competitive, which in turn benefits us all.

I must say that I was disappointed to hear that the Council had issued only one permit. In fact I spoke to the local Councillor (Chris Thompson) about it and was informed that they are seriously considering adopting the Gold Coast model and stopping ALL commercial operations on public beaches. He stated that it was public space and everyone deserved to be able to use it without any restriction caused by a commercial operation. I am perplexed as to how they can limit SUP permits to one operator due to commercial impact on the use of public space, yet they still allow multiple operators to run their fitness classes or photography classes etc in public parks, or numerous surf schools to continue to operate unhindered.

Seems a little unfair to me.

Just make sure they wear leg ropes.
