Hi guys,

My first time on this post and my first time in Hawaii.. poor me!

Been out Supping twice already and it is pure bliss. Only small waves in Waikiki but still a lot of fun. It seems the Suppers are the only ones catching waves, how good is that?!

Was out on a 10ft Laird today and I was struggling just to keep my balance standing as the wind picks up and it gets quite tippy out in the bay.. Will look to get a bigger board tomorrow. Hire prices are ok - $50 for 3 hrs which is plenty and the guys dropped me off as well which helps. Not a fan of the Laird soft tops though.. where's my AST??

Dave.. quick question for you if you read this. I'm trying to find a floater for my sunglasses and I noticed you had a good gadget that you were using. Was that self made or did you buy it somewhere?

I'm looking to push on to Maui soon and also check out the North Shore. Waves are only small up there at present so that suits me.

Til next time..

Hi there Rea and welcome to the Breeze forum... So you finally got to Hawaii..(you lucky bugger).. ..btw.. Is that $50 US or Aussie dollars for SUP rental ?

Those 10' Lairds are very narrow.. about 27" I think.. Try and get something bigger next time although you seemed to handle that little 9'3" Naish ok last week.

Any news on the Super Ferry.. Is it back running or will you have to fly to Maui?.. Pls keep us updated with how things are going and what you're up to.

I have lost so many sunnies in the water and they drop like a rock and often can never be found again.. and it's like Murphy's law if you don't have a strap on them.

You are better off getting one of those cheap neoprene straps that push on the arms because the strap floats them if they drop in the water.

Here's a pic of what I made for mine.. It's just thin rope and a wine bottle cork.. It also works well.. even if it does look a bit like a tampon..

they sell sunnies with straps on this site, a bit like the oakley surf ones, but not as Xy.

maybe not as cool as the ones with string and a cork on them though

Lol, thanks Dave.. that's a great tampon you've got yourself! I lost a pair of sunnies the first time I did stand up in St Kilda.. and with all those jellies floating around I'm definitely not going to go looking for them. They sell sunglass holders with the elastic where you slide the arms into it.. but I think yours looks a lot better.. I'll try and get something together.

Well I tried a "wingnut" out there today. An Robert August and it was soo much better. This board is begging for waves but does ok in the bumpy water as well. It's great to finally be catching some waves and almost hanging 10. So much fun to be had out there, gets a little crowded though unless you head out the back.

Thanks for the travel tips on Hawaii too.. I've had lots of people tell me to check out Kauai..flights are cheap at the moment too, it's only $28US to Maui.
Dave the surf hire is in US $$.. It cost $6 for water crackers over here.. very expensive.

Superferry is toast. Hawaii Supreme court deemed their end-run around an environmental impact study unconstitutional.

It's probably been refitted to serve the military by now.

I was on it once. Made me woozy.

Is that WOman? Yes the alcohol is cheaper a lot of the time.

Is that you doing the headstand Dave. I'm trying to do it whilst on a wave, think that could be interesting. Actually Nancy Emerson has mastered it to.

Now back to the waves.
