Hey Ted,
How sad is that!
We wish him a super fast recovery, I would be shattered if that happened to one of my kids.
Grading system well who is going to enforce it as every one quite rightly says????
Over the years I have always made my girls wear helmets in the surf and I have been given all sorts of stick for doing it. I now wear one myself at certain breaks, might not be a fashion statement but it is a small insurance policy.
On several occasions the girls have actually been hit both by thier own boards when they were learning and other peoples. The helmet has thank god so far protected their heads and they have come away with bruises else where.
The pressure on water space will only continue to grow.
In Vicco where we live the serious pressure is only on the breaks for a few months then the summer crew disappears and a bit of sanity returns.
I had an interesting conversation at the beach a month ago and it went like this!
" Get the F$#% out of my way" I only get the odd day out of Melbourne and I intend to get as many waves as I can before I go back to the day to day Sh!t!"
I was paddling around in 1 foot OG slop for excercise, it wasnt worth even going out really and with only 15 out and 100s of meters of beach where was the issue? This guy was getting his fix.
Makes me wonder how many others think this way or due to lifestyle are forced into this view. I guess it becomes like a drug we all crave once we are exposed.
Best wishes to the boy and his parents.
Phill
