Been on Maui for four days, day one settle in, pick up the new F14 and take it for a flat-water spin then it's on - three days, three down-winders.....awesome!!!
Because of the wind we have done South Shore down-winders, a little like the downwinders in the Bay in Melbourne, wind swell and pretty strong wind. Just a few differences, warm water, palm trees, turtles, nice big swell and 2 out of 4 on outrigger canoes.
I'm a little relieved that we started with South Shore, the swell on the north side of Maui is
BIG
....scary big
The new toy on the roof of my Maui Cruiser - worried about the roof racks!
We managed to fit 2 OC1's and 2 14' SUPS on the roof on the way home
See, 14' isn't really that big after all
The OC1's absolutely fly, makes you feel pretty humble
The F14 is a pleasure to paddle, steering makes it super manouvreable and I'm starting to get the hang of actually steering onto the wave face and using it to catch swells running in slightly different directions. The thing surfs like a dream and feels very stable.
Mind you I did try a custom F16 on the run today, displacement nose and tail and double concave. Found it a little less stable than the F14 but boy did it glide and was so fast down the faces of the swell.
4 to 6 foot south side swell forecast for the morning for an early surf sup then hopefully another down-winder in the afternoon - gotta love it.
