That was a great session. It was nice to see you ripping that board around. Just the right small board size to be flickable. As beautiful as that spot is, I imagine it's remoteness adds the the adrenaline factor when you are alone out there and there is some size.

my time will come ,i will just watch your videos ..and imagine its me switch foot ..

go pro can be deceiving ,but i can see some size in those waves ...

Ah SCE, that sounds familiar to a few sessions I had last winter!

Getting humbled! It was those few sessions that led me to a larger board then the small one I was on early in the season - found the sweet spot.

A bigger board would have been perfect! I would have loved to have the Insane, but the Placid would have been great too.

How do you think the Point Break would have handled it-size and paddle out?

Personally, I would not dream of taking the point break out there in those conditions. It is just too big - IMO. For starters, I would have needed a steel-reinforced leggie. I took it out at my home break (Big Left, Flinders) in waves that are small for that break (and I thought it would be smaller), but still at least shoulder height and it was scary. I broke the leggie (luckily I caught up with it before the waves took it too far). When a wave crashes over it there is a lot of backward force. I think it is just too big.

At least with a reef break you can paddle around the trouble to get back out. Where I was yesterday was an unforgiving beach break.

My Insane (9'11) is still very big, and it has an industrial-strength leggie, but I think it is at the limit of length for big waves - again, IMO. It is also slim 29.5" vs 32". But it lets you get on to the wave earlier and it is easier to paddle out - but at 29.5" wide it is still a bit tippy.

I would have been much better on my Placid, which is only 8'7 long, but 30.5" wide, because I am "proficient" getting over white water on that board. The Blurr V2 is just a bit small for me to get through the bigger breaking waves.

Thanks Tardy! Yes, there were a few that were at least head height. GoPro makes them all look small...

I had my butt kicked yesterday...

Went to the same place but the waves were at least another foot higher, maybe 2 feet higher, but much more powerful. The conditions were good windwise, but it was tough getting out. Wave after wave...

The face of the wave was lumpy - it was hard to control. I find it hard to set a rail when it feels like the board just wants to hop around. Got smashed a few times taking off too late...

Caught a great left a little too far (got greedy), and 20 minutes later I was still battling waves to get back out. That's one problem with the shorter board - I can't balance through the breaking wave like I can on the Placid. Most of the time I was prone paddling, but I can't duckdive on the SUP, and the bigger waves grabbed me, slapped me around, and pushed me back. You know the story.

I was getting tired, no one else was out, so went home with my tail between my legs... (I wore my helmet this time.)
