John and I are thinking about doing another night paddle on the Yarra tonight.

We plan to meet at the boatsheds (opp Fed Square) about 7.30pm and head down to the docklands area.

Anyone else interested.. The weather looks perfect.

John and I had a brilliant paddle again tonight.

Many who wanted to come could not make it.. mostly due to the short notice.

So... We plan to paddle again next Tuesday night.. So those who would like to come can plan for it.

Let's make it a big one.. BTW.. I now have a camera that can take pics at night.

Check it out.. .. I took these pics after our paddle tonight.

Can you make it Monday or Wednesday?
I'm keen.

How's the surf ghost in the 3rd photo! Slow shutter speed I'm guessing?

Last night's paddle was a great workout - this was no picture-taking cruisey evening paddle. We paddled for two hours. It took 50 minutes to get back from Docklands into a stiff headwind. We don't always go so far though.

Should start planning the next biggie around Wilsons Prom. Labour Day in Victoria falls on Monday 9 March which could be a good time.

I just realised I may have a meeting on Monday night. Consider me 50/50 at the moment.

Hey Oliver, agree with the Labour Day idea. I'll be down there and we will have people staying with us - he is an expert motor boat guy so we can have our 5m RIB on the water as back-up. Means that we could plan something slightly more "intense" with a boat around. It's almost impossible to plan exactly because of the vagaries of the weather but I'm sure that whatever the conditions we could still have fun. My preference would be the Sunday but it doesn't really matter. Any thoughts welcome.

I'm planning on taking some annual leave either side of Labour day and will stay up in Inverloch so Sunday sounds good to me.

Oh..... Just heard that Wilsons Prom could be closed during the labour day weekend due to the fires. http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1park_display.cfm?park=217

Hard to know what will happen with the fires at the Prom but regardless there is heaps to do around Corner Inlet / Waratah Bay. Hate to think what the poor old Prom will be like after the fires though.

A friend of mine who works for the DSE said if the fires stay where they are you won't even notice or see the burnt bush from the drive in. Apparently they are like 6 to 8km from the main road into Tidal River and if the wind turns more S to SW then they should head away from Tidal River.

Fingers crossed it's all good

edit: Spoke to Gazza this morning and the fires are at lot closer to tidal river today after easterlys have pushed them closer.

Why take my word for it?

When you get up point your browser to www.triggerbrothers.com.au and see it for yourself.

That's what I did last night and I saw 2-3 foot clean waves at Crunchies.

Weird quote! If Crunchies is 3ft (faces) then Pines is usually around 2ft, as a rule of thumb 30% smaller. And Honeysuckle can be 1 to 2ft bigger than Crunchies depending on swell direction. So did you get waves?

We are taking the bus down at about 4.30 on Monday, so there will be a bunch of boards to use (but not the Glide, that will be for me)

Will fire up the barbie at about 6ish

Hey Dave, bummed it doesn't look like I will be able to make it. Not that early anyway.
Are you parking right near the rowing decks and buildings (near skatepark)?

If so I might try get down there a bit later. See how I go.

Cheers

Brendan,
Yes, we park between the skate park and the rowing sheds. It's free after 3pm. Be careful not to park past the rowing sheds, it's permit only parking in some areas. I've copped a fine there before.
We paddle downstream towards the casino, and usually stop on one of the low boat pontoons along the way. If you paddle that way you should see us. Sometimes we go all the way to Docklands, but probably won 't tonight. DJ will have done a downwinder already today.

Yes I'm back from my down-winder and just washed off the Glide and put the AST on the roof ready for tonight.

I will be there from about 6pm (for the BBQ) and we will start paddling at about 730pm.. That's when all the Dragon boats come in.

Parking is usually not a problem...(and free).

I think I'll give it a miss tonight. It's windy and I don't want to risk falling in the yarra.

Hey Oliver.. How could you fall off the Uli.. You could paddle that in your sleep and not fall off..

You must still be at work..(inside) ..because it's a real stinker outside.. and a little wind won't hurt you.. ..and it will drop as the sun goes down.
