I joined a bit of scrap eps to make a 16' flat water board, max width possibe was 24". Its a bit of an experiment to see if its faster than the 20'er.
Out line will be thinned in the entry area yet, as I originally made a 14" template & found I could get a longer board out of the scrap.
Any ideas on a bottom shape?
What would you make?

The last time you suggested names for your boards tons of people offered suggestions and you never announced a winner?

I think your next board should be the ideal downwind board - one that could beat dj's glide ppb on those gnarly conditions.

I got some 8cm waves down at pines again today - for the first hour I even had them all to myself, I'm so happy now. It's been a few weeks without getting wet and I was getting very cranky. I thought there would be some good 10cm down there at PRK today but couldn't face the drive.

Seriously, I think you have got all conditions covered with your boards except the downwinder. I know you could build something that will make our jaws drop.

My vote is to get into the down-wind boards, although 24" is certainly on the thin side. I like the look of the Bill Foote boards. Here are some photos I pinched from the Zone.

The first two are 14' and super light weight - from memory under 9 kg and full carbon and I think 25" wide - I'll see if I can find the weight reference and confirm.

The next three are a 15' board - I think 27" wide

Love the simple clean shape, notice the first one doesn't even have a deck grip to keep it light, just wax.

hmmmm, I can see some similarities. 9kg - wow that's light. DJ can you show this pic to Alex?

Good question.. Dean I'd like to see pretty much the same thing as the 20'er.

It is for a non-planing hull right?. That Bill Foote board is a planing hull so that won't work IMO.

Ok Oliver.. It does look good doesn't it.

DJ

I agree DJ about the Bill Foote shape not being ideal - just trying to get some of that LSD wisdom out of the river and onto the ocean! Here is another interesting bottom shape for a down-winder, the SIC F14, bit going on isn't there! The story goes that Mark Raaphorst made 26 boards as prototypes for the F14 before they made the molds for this shape. Wonder if they are just sitting out the back.....

Just checked on the post on the zone about the Bill Foote board - under 20lbs without the fin!! So 9kg and it is 24" wide not 25.

Here is the link to the full topic with great step by step photos of the build.
