Hi Girls,

It's great to see there is a growing number of us surfing - and entering comps. It's especially hard for us to progress against the guys - but I'm looking at developing /changing a few things.

I've been in touch with some girls boardriders clubs and have had positive response. There is some girls boardriders keen to introduce a ladies SUP division at some club rounds/ competitions. The key is now is numbers...

This isn't just for the girls keen to enter comps - but rather help develop and promote the sport to other girls out there... feedback is welcome!!

At this stage we need some girls for the 3 MAY... There is a strong possibility of a SUP girls round on the Sunny Coast

That sounds like awsome fun! I would be super keen if I didn't live over here in the west and wasn't heading overseas for a year in June. Good on you for getting the ball rolling .

It would be good to have some over here too.

Hey Starlet, here in NSW we have a few keen ladies and even had a ladies only heat in our last SPSC surfing event - we had 6 starters - my 16 yo daughter being one of them.

Casso had a god idea in that we ran it as a 1st round heat (ladies only) then the top 3 went through to the second round of the opens.

That way half of them got at least 2 surfs and the first heat could act as a ladies final as well.

I would love to see a similar thing in the juniors if we could get enough starters!

Hey Goatman, Its good to see NSW on the right track! SUPSA are also looking at a womans category.. which is great! Its hard with some of the bigger comps like malfunction, roar, and noosa - but hopefully by attracting some more comps for women - we will eventually get our own division!

Hi Starlet,
I'm up on the sunny coast, interested in what you get rolling.
Let me know if I can help.

Starlet, I noticed there is a surfing mums thing run at Currumbin, might be worth getting in touch. They essentially take turns minding the kids while some of the mums go for a surf. Could be a good place to find some ladies that might be keen on SUP or already into it.

Yep the surfing mums group is cool idea. I know Angie has already spent alot of time with them and teaching them Sup. According to Angie most of them were ripping the small waves apart within 30min!

Done a fair bit of work with the surfing mums group and i can say, they RIP! Such a cool idea for mums so they can still get time on the water.
They love learning to sup and some of them now have boards of their own.

I think with how fast the sports growing it won't be long until you see stand alone female divisions in the surfing side of things, it's already happening in the racing.

You would think operating your own stand up paddle shop i would get plently of time to enter and hang out but unfortunatly it's completely opposite. No time AARRGGGHH. It's especially hard when some comps run for 4 to 7 days long.

I agree the more females we get to enter in the males surfing side of things the more it encourages the event organises to create a stand alone female surfing division.

Won't be long ladies!

At least i'm let out to race with you all on sunday at malfunction but then back to shop after race!

It would be great to have the girls competing in their own rounds as it is a bit tough on them competing against the guys. I personally think they should also be competing against the guys, too, as this will help lift their surfing.

Good point Mike. That's why we incorporated the 'girls only' first round heat with the top placegetters progressing through to round 2 with the guys. Best of both worlds!
