A good friend of mine , long time surfer , mid 50s is looking at a knee replacement
..old footy injury finally took its toll.....His surgeon said surfing would be out.
ANother friend of mine is playing water polo post his knee replacement.
Any one had experience of surfing post knee replacement?

Not post Knee but post hip replacement , if you listened to the doctor you would not get out of bed.Just tell him not to rush it , maybee where some kind of support.

Yeah for sure, check out that tanker surfing vid posted on here, the guy on there is wearing a big steel hinged knee brace. I've had operations on both knees(not even close to a replacement I know) but in todays day and age the doctor is always going to err on the side of caution.
I guess it is always easier to give advice when it's not your own knee.
Just my opinion, but I'd just be careful, no way in the world would I stop surfing.

I did some work for ex Rugby League dude a while back. He had both knees replaced, titanium, etc.... Separate planned operations. Within a year or so, he was back skiing, and loving life. Now a few of his mates are getting replacements.
So I'm tipping he'll be back in the water ! Samll steps as they say.
