I'm gonna try and have a surf early tomorrow.

I've checked the chart and it looked pretty good at the alley for a new guy like me.
The surf will be small and the winds light.

Other than keeping out of other peoples way, do you have any tips?

Should I go to one of the open beaches instead ?? If so which one??

yeah don't go, why do beginners surf there (SUP, mals shortboards) it is so busy,

1 -wont get a wave
2- get in the way of everyone
3- probably end up in some sort of collision

Wind will be offshore early, there will be plenty of relatively empty beach breaks around and your ability in the surf will increase faster as you need to learn how to negotiate the waves.

just because lots of people sup or surf a place doesn't mean it's the best place to go. some folks just surf a spot day in day out for whatever reason when if they looked elsewhere they would find uncrowded and better waves close by. don't become an "alley zombie".

Good advice from both

The best thing about SUP is that you can catch waves that most other people can't. Why would you want to go to the Alley when it already has too many SUP's in the water anyway? With this swell and the conditions tomorrow you will have plenty of options to choose from away from the points.

Also, as a newbie you definately do not want to be anywhere around other people in the water. SUPs are very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.

You will have way more fun if you stay away for everyone.

I surfed there this morning on shortboard. In the Golden hour not on a weekday.

There was a guy on a SUP that was an absolute turkey, paddling through the crowd sitting out far trying to get waves. People were having none of it though and he bumped into about 5 that I seen. The Mals were running havoc.

If you are not super experienced and able to negotiate things well a SUP is not the board for a very crowded point break.

This was Friday at a good time, Saturday will be much worse.

On the other hand there looked like some Waikiki type waves way down at Laceys. If there arent 50 guys on SUPS from Brisbane to Broadbeach tomorrow it would be perfect to learn on.

Have a look anywhere on the stretch from Nth Kirra to Tugun, sometimes you can find an ok bank and it's very rarely too crowded, just avoid low tide (i'm not sure what time it is tomorrow) as steep waves closing out on shallow banks (even if they're pretty small waves) can be a challenge when you're not used to them on a sup.

If you do decide to go out from the alley anyway - paddle out wide to Lacey's and up the beach past the crowds - depending on the conditions, there's sometimes an uncrowded wave up in front of the towers at the south end of Palmy.

just find somewhere else if your beginning, get out by your self in the surf for a while untill ur competent enough at catching waves, getting out through the wash etc(basics), just find a haalf decent beachie or something and go for a surf by your self, you'll have more fun and catch more waves, untill you think your ready to head out with the hordes

Sell the sup, buy a tent and go camping at yamba for the weekend - you will have a lot more fun and your tent will come home without a ding in it.

Lacey shut up,sighted today at the G where 6 sup's, the gate keeper is back on duty tomorrow The wave is not suited to this type of activity, best head to the Alley, perfect spot and the sup crew will look after you.
