We've been planning a paddle from Portsea Pier around to Quarrantine..It shouldn't take us long.....You should join us.

Do you know what tide it works on?...Have you been there before?

I remember seeing a pic in the newspaper once of a guy at Quarrantine getting a huge stand up barrel...It said the wave was in Port Phillip Bay..

If the tide is coming in the only place you'll end up is somewhere inside the bay. I've paddled numerous times in very strong tidal currents around inverloch, as long as you don't paddle against it you are fine - wind is a bigger problem imo. If the conditions are right I wouldn't see it as too much of a challenge.

I really would love to paddle around Portsea and the quarrantine. Always facinated me as a kid cause you weren't allowed to go there.

Only one way to find out - let's check out the area - be fun to paddle around Portsea - Should be good on a light south / South Easterly. It's only about 2km crossing from Point Nepean to Point Londsdale and if the tides coming in the worst place we could end up in is Queenscliffe which isn't a bad place to visit - beautiful town and hotel there and a ferry service back to Portsea/Sorrento at $9.00 - it sounds perfect. I'm sure JD will bring along the flares if we get into any trouble.

Thinking a little more about it. West coast guys - JD Revin et all could catch the ferry from Queenscliffe to Sorrento and meet us there and paddle back or vice versa.... something to think more about - but totally doable imho.

If you do get pushed in with the tide and you need to wait it out there's always Mud Island to head to...I don't think you'll get a chance to get to Queenscliff once the rip gets cranking , Mud Island is right in the middle of the crossing and the ferry passes it on the Portsea side heading out. Nice spot for those who havn't visited, I got stuck there for a few hours once when the wind died on my Kiteboard while a mate went to get a jet Ski. Was starting to wonder what raw bird would taste like....

could have been mud - but more likely it was bird ****.
