Yep,
the MAMBO this year is including the NAISH SUP Division. Word is there will be an expression session every morning with a proviso that SUPs are out of the way when kiters start getting onto the water although there should still be some time in the windsurf area after that.
there is also word that some more informal events will be on the cards, such as downwinders, other surf sessions, short point etc and if the tide is right it would make a perfect booze cruise into the lakie.
There is already a crowd coming down from the gold coast and a few up from vic as well as the usual suspects from syd.
its going to supping rock...

I don't like the sound of that - are we going to be relegated to the river or some corner of the beach with no waves?

Hey Casso...No..it wont be like that..90% of the time at the event the kiters and windsurfers are waiting for wind..and we'll be out by ourselves..

Once the wind does blow we'll have the wind protected bar to SUP surf if we want to..and the wind shadow will keep most of them away..or maybe we'll paddle out to the point and do a down winder way past the competition area and down to Pambula.

It's not like they'll send us out into the middle of a bunch of mad kiters..

If it's really honking and we don't do a down winder we can just sit on the beach and watch the action..The kiters and windsurfers do put on a great show.

Besides it a very casual affair and we just do what we like..There's no pressure to do anything.

Are you still going to make it down?

If you need accommodation try calling these guys.. www.southerncomfort.com.au/

It's where I stay and it's in a perfect location and pretty good price.

Oh, that sounds OK, especially the bit about surfing the bar - I've seen some awesome photos of that break (albeit a bit fickle). The downwinders should be fun too - so long as they are very steep downhill runs (I don't think I could manage a run like what the Seaway to Seaway crew got).

I'm almost definitely coming from Fri-Sun. I was just thinking of sleeping in my wagon in a carpark somewhere (to save $ and to save towing my caravan all that way). How are the council rangers about cracking down on that sort of thing?

or if its anything like last year over 90%... JB actually got a place in the windsurfing event sailing his sup.
It is merely the way the organisers have decided will work in the best and safest way for all involved. Each time a new sport is added it ups the complexity of the event, but i think this plan will work pretty well.
the wind could theoretically smoke for the whole weekend, but in my experience of Mambo its not that likely, and besides, there is so much more to the mambo than just competing.
as DJ said, there will be crew doing all kinds of things, and there is 40km of other beaches each side of Merimbula, so if you really need to keep surfing im sure you could find a break for a windy arvo or something.

Scotty it takes me about 6 1/2 hours to drive from Melbourne to Merimbula (taking it easy).

I'm not sure how long it would take to drive from Warrnambol..Maybe an extra 2hrs.

Boylos... No entry form needed.

From Thursday morning you enter at the shed at Ford Oval and yes entry is about $100 (if you chose to enter) but for that you get a cool Mambo T shirt (worth $50) and you get all you can eat all day every day (4 days) from the barbie.. breakfast, lunch and tea....(late arvo they shut it down)

Plus..If you can make it to the presentation Sunday night once all the main trophy's and prizes are given out all other competitors get put into a lucky draw and names are drawn out..Once your name is drawn out you go up and select a prize.

These prizes could be anything from a new wet suit or Oakley sunnies or T shirt or boardies....So it's well worth the $100... See you there..

Here's the main site in Merimbula for the Mambo.

Green cross = Ford Oval sports ground..and it's often open to car parking.

Yellow arrow = Sign in shed and place for all info and updates.

Red cross = Main competition area.

Light blue arrow = Toilet and showers.
