Add local Gold Coast Surfer/shaper Anthony Dietz on the Gold Coast.

Dietz Surfcraft at Burleigh Gardens.Mb.0434273549

Great craftsman and will make you any shape/design you want.

I pick up my new 10.4 SUP off him next week, can't wait.

I have had 3 of his SUP's and can recommend his workmanship and attention to detail.

He also fixes dings and things to do with epoxsy boards.

Lets get behind the local Aussie shapers!

Wazza

I'd add the Stonker boys in Torquay and Treehouseboards. I think it's a great thing to support our Australian manufacturers.

I am loving this idea to this thread. With the thread about ethics in the surf industry and the raw emotion about the desire to support shapers i thought Seabreeze could set in with assistance. It would be great for the to have a button in their blue bar say next to forum that listed the shapers by region / state / country etc. I think this would be a great way of providing the information to surfers of where they could get their board made / designed.

Imagine the assistance that it would guys in this industry. It would bridge the gap for new surfers to find and support local shapers and most likely inject a lot of money into the industry. It would also enable the avenue for more R and D. This is a win win for all.

Only down side is it could increase the wait time for a new board. But then again it could create the need for more shapers and thus assist with giving someone a job in their passion.

If anyone knows or has influence with the website administrators then I would suggest they put forward this preposal.

It could even go interactive whereby feedback about their work / design could be left so that johny public can make a informed choice. they could even list a price range for their work.

Endless possibilities after a few things are smmothed out.

Interested in what others think?

Fair Call.

A list of local sellers would be good as well as this could link the shapers to buyers as has always

Do most aussie shapers use polystyrene and epoxy or are they using polyester resins? I don't really want to go back to boards like that. If my local shaper makes em like the imported ones then I will definately rethink my next purchase.

Dale Chapman not just only for his Race boards but his Sup Surf boards as well , I rode his 9-0 at Noosa and it ripped. Dale is the only local shaper I know with a CNC machine so you can go in with an idea and design your board on the computer screen. this makes it very easy for the average punter to see his board before it's made and know what it's going to look like.

This is a very timely thread as designs are changing faster than the production board shapes , Supping is going high performance , look at all the sub 9-6 boards that are now available that weren’t last year from the major manufacturers. Its big tooling cost to put out new shapes from the big boys, that’s why they are slow to update.

Sup shops like the new Greenline store can see this trend coming and that’s why he not only stocks the major brands but boards from 3 local shapers as well.

There will always be a big place for production boards as they are the ones that have done the expensive R&D shaping and testing 20 or so boards before they settle on a new model, that’s the advantage of buying a production board will get a board that will suit most people in most conditions....but you might not be one of those people.

I already own 2 production boards and love them but my 3rd will be a custom from Dale.

Rob

Thanks champ, I am not sure you can class yourself as a shaper after 3 boards.
Maybe a good hack....

I still think it would be a good idea for the industry to have a online list of shapers and SUP sellers so that interested people can find them when this thread is gone. I would love to see something like this on Seabreeze.

Noosa Surf Works - produce the Laguna Bay SUP Surfing Boards, Laguna Bay Open Ocean Boards, they also do the Robert August SUP boards & G & S boards.

noosasurfworks.com.au/

The Open Ocean boards are hand shaped by Stuey Campbell who is on this site.

The G & S board was what Dane Wilson was riding in the Final of the SUP Surfing event at the Noosa festival of Surfing.

Golden Breed Noosa - www.goldenbreed.com

There was also a Honolua SUP Board (Locally Made) & Two Laguna Bay SUP Boards.

What about Woody Jack?
He does SUP boards, and has a shaping machine. Both the 2008 Malfunction and 2009 Honolua SUP Event at the Alley(surfing Portion) were won on his boards as well.

I know this is a little offside in relation to the main topic of Oz sup shapers, but does anyone know the specs of the sups of the 6 finalists.length ,width thickness? Leaving out Robdog and Noel Woods, on the Naish's, but adding Luke Egan.Rodriguez.
