A couple of years ago my daughter and I went SUP'ing on the Yarra on Australia day.
We were surprised to see so many people along the banks and soon found out that there was a big duck race on.. Here's a few pics from that year.
My daughter (Claire) had her wetsuit on in case she fell into the brown water.. We had Aussie flags taped to our boards.. and I even had a little eski on the back of mine.
We went back last year and the duck race event was even bigger.. Claire didn't wear her wetsuit and a few friends came along for the fun.. Here's more pics.
The idea is people donate money to Surf Life Saving Clubs by buying a plastic duck for $5 and every duck has a number..and if your duck floats to the end first you win a new car.
We have a great day and we'll be there again this year (Jan 26th).. This is what my daughter always does when she gets hold of my camera.
Let's hope more can join us this year so plan for it now.. It's on a Monday I think.. It's a great way to spend Australia day.. We could even have a Breeze Barbie.
Here's some links about the day..
