this is the way i see it,to start up a whole new association for sup we would first off need insurance and plenty of starters,the only reasonable way for insurance is through surfing australia or your state division.a couple of clubs have done this in qld and my assume that the sydney club and sup vic have done the same thing.these clubs as you know are under way and doing their own contest/club days which is all good.
so far all of the sup contests have been tack ons to longboard contests and surfing australia decided it was time to tack one on to the aussie titles this year,this was done out of the blue and i havnt heard who put it together or even suggested it but it is a start,now there are some clubs running we may be able to get together and set some sort of program then present it to surfing australia,they may let us do our own thing but they will want a piece of the pie.
personally i would like our own association but breaking away from the nest is difficult.i contacted surfing qld again this morning and they are onto it but they dont know whats happening down at port and are assuming the contest director is just filling spots with available sup surfers,this wont happen again as all spots should be filled by the next state qualifier and if our groups work together with the state association we can make it work,i dont know how the ski circuit worked but if you have better ideas throw them into the mix,with your background goatman i am sure some of us will listen.meanwhile we can start by organising regional contests and getting some sort of rating system going for open mens ladies and age divisions even if its just over 40 for now.like i said i dont know why the aussies have turned into a who,s here just let some one surf but tassie and w.a probably havent fielded a team so there are 4 spots to start that need to be filled but they should have contacted the next in line in each state
the racing side is being run by the outrigger association i believe
