Well I must say I was at first somewhat dissapointed when I clicked on that website, wasn't quite what I was expecting when I see Goatman promoting "Awesome Brazilian Pics"

But those shots are farkin awesome! Love that shot above, apart from the position of his right arm/hand, he could be ripping a filthy heelside carve in waist deep pow The stance and where he's looking is perfect.

The younger guy is absolutely ripping!

There's something wrong with that board. He can't keep it on the water.

I don't think there's a single shot where any part of the board except for the fins and a bit of tail is on the water.

Also, there's no deck pad. That must be what they call a Brazilian wax job.

Very impressive!
Particularly that fluro spray job.....inspiration for my next board.

And what was Salazar most impressed with? A whole new ball game....under 11lb board weight!

Sooner or latter you guys will relise what you are missing out on riding boards even a few kg heavier

Lightness rips!!!

think the old man is on a stringered board would be heavier than the younger Salazar. No question light is good but I cannot afford to buy a new board every couple of weeks and work long hours so no I cannot make them myself.
Seen plenty of boards snap over here.

Are you seeing any pattern in the types of construction that is snapping?

Yes stringerless with no sandwich construction. Lots of sups are just a couple of layers of glass over styro blank they break easy.

Hilly Mate.....This is a strong heavy timber sandwich board that was tested to destruction....they had to drive a truck over to break it......(you can tell it was a large truck by the size of the tyre mark across the deck)

Using your calculation of a light board every 2 weeks I should have gone through 22 boards so far this year
The TWO 5kg boards I've made this year are still going strong, they have been surfed every day there is surf, this week about 25 hours....& the weeks not over yet & neither is the board.
The lizard did crease in the tail when riding small barrels, Not realising the damage, I continued to surf the board for 2 days ....the 11" fin stoped the flat out board on the reef.....the same wave as below....look carefully you can see the water draining off the reef in the foreground.

Winter this year produced some of the best waves you will find anywhere, & many landed ON my board.

I would not make a board I couldnt go out & ride in anything & have fun.....it would be the pits to have a board break on a good day. I cetainly dont paddle out thinking, hope my board dosnt break.
Light boads are not for everyone, not everyone rides or will ever ride like our Brazilian mate here...although its fun trying.

Hilly you need to accept that light boards are viable, yes of course they will dint & ding more easily...but they certainly do stay in one bit long enough to get your moneys worth out of them.
I am not here promoting the light boards I make for myself & friends...I am here promoting the fun that light boards in general allow.
Riders who feel they need a board strong enough to drive a truck over, well thats up to you guys........But next time strain your back getting the thing to the water....spare a thought for DJ straining his dick!

Lol dean nice bite

your waves tend to be protected by cliffs mine are 1k out open to lots of wind. I prefer a heavier board in those conditions.
At 105kg I can throw a 10kg board around ok.

Can you stop the evangelical preaching please I am allowed to have my view I do not have to accept yours. If you read my first post I said light is good.

The naish photo you use out of context was creased in small waves the mana in the review section was creased flicking of a wave I have seen a 11 4 snap paddling up a wave. I have seen another brand explode into 3 pieces and another snap in foam. Plenty of examples to to keep me happy with my choice. Naish are not a proper sandwich construction they just have a wood veneer on the deck the bottom is just glass.

I liked the photo of your board after the mal hit it looked not very strong

Totally agree.

I like a bit of security if I have driven 1300k's for a surf

Dean if you want to prove me wrong send one over happy to do some destruction testing

Hilly what do you mean prove you wrong?......there is nothing to prove, the method I use is standard every day surfboard constructon that has been around for ages....& accepted by the masses. They all break at some point.

The waves you drive 1300 k's for must be good to drive that far for?
Do you take only one board?
What happends if you do break it or knock a fin out?....long way home for the spare.
I'd be taking a spare if surfing remote & serious about it.....no mater how "secure" old faithfull is.
Cheers

When you lecture me like 'Hilly you need to accept' tends to give me the impression you think I am wrong. No I do not accept that light is good for everyone that is the only point I am making which you do not seem to understand. Surfboards generally have stringers and pu construction not epoxy and styro even surftech have sandwich I snapped one kiting on Thursday.

Yes the drive is well worth it and old faithful and his bigger brother have not let me down.

Hilly there is no need to tell me my boards are weak...I know they are. How do you think the are so light.
They last the same or better than a standard eps surfboard.....everyone knows the pro's & con's of surfboard construction & they are still made in their 1000's, there is no need for debate here.

To make the comment that YOU liked my board being damaged by a mal makes you sound vindictive? Would you like to explain to us why?....it makes you sound Silly Hilly

Preaching? A lot of riders not aware that its possibe to have boards very light...so get over it Hilly.... I will continue to make it known for those who are interested.
I have no agenda to convert you or anyone else into riding a light small board, it is not for everyone (But the ease of carrying is!)
One day Hilly you may see the light....excuse the pun And have a play on something different. After all.... that is the reason many start to ride SUP anyway.

Regarding wind & light boards....
I dont mean to come accross as a smart arse, BUT.... how do you know the waves I ride are sheltered by cliffs?
The only wave I surf that has large cliffs is Bells & maybe Urquharts bluff.
The larger waves we ride here are off the end of Point Danger & PRK, the fetch over open water on a northerly is 3k's or so, it's where we kite...so a very windy area.
I've had 11' heavy boards out there on windy days...& now ride a light 8'2" there,
the main difference with the short board is the lack of nose for wind to push around or get under in a late take off & late take offs can be manditory when paddling into a strong head wind. So I find short & light no problem. Do you actualy know Hilly that light is ok in wind? Have you actualy tried it?
But of course, once the chop gets to 1' or more..certainly a larger board is more comfortable....but when it's that windy it's not fun anyway.
