Has anyone SUP around Sanur I've read online its not to bad.
Was more wanting to know if its worth taking my own board or just hiring one over there. I've just purchased a 2nd board riding the Naish Hokua X32 at the moment. Any info or advice would be appreciated or if you have been and know some other good spots and what sort of standard rider they suit.
Peace

We stayed at the Mercure in Sanur, easy paddle out to the reef, great spot. If you can take your board or book a Jimmy Lewis rental, shop in town can't remember the name but has all the range in inc the WW waves

I haven't been to Sanur to SUP, but it does sound good over that side.

I just got back for 9 days in Bali. I stayed in Nusa Dua and rode over to Priority SUP to rent a board each morning.

They are at Jimberan Bay, its a good 400 - 500 meter paddle out to the reefs (Tora Tora), but its worth it. Wind is cross/off shore this time of the year at Jimberan Bay. I did have few mornings of nil wind, but this was from about 7-9am. Wind seems to come up mid-mornings and usually dies off late afternoon. So nice to do a sunset paddle too.

Just respect the local surfers if you do go there. I got no agro at all from them, but I do stay wide, or I stay further inside (closer to shore), to stay away from them. Staying wide is great, you get all the bigger sets all by yourself. And it can be a long ride on a good day, so staying further inside also allows you to get long rides.

we had a great time at Sanur out on the reef last year
if you contact Jankie at [email protected] he will be able to help you
he has good boards and is very efficient in responding to your emails
I also spoke with him about what the surf would be like at different times of the year and he was honest enough to tell me that my planned visit would not be a good time
Have a great trip

Hi Luke

SUP in Sanur is prob some of the best in Bali
Best is definitely Oct - April

As said below see Jankie or Rip Curl Surf have sups as do a couple of other guys now on the beach

Straight out from Rip Curl is Baby Reef or if your keen paddle over to Serangin
Most of the breaks straight out are an easy 10-15 min paddle which is a good warm up or their are many guys on the beach that will take you out in their boats and move around if you want - its all cheap as

Cheers and enjoy

From my web site:

Unfortunately since over a year Surf Schools start to dump allot of Beginner Surfer as Simzy.
Need to get out early...
Oka Point is still mostly for SUPer. Is part of Serangan but can paddle out from Sanur.
More boat services around Mertasari. Around 50.000 -60.000 rp for drop and pick up.

Sanur
Sanur Reef Type of break: Sharp dangerous shallow coral reef Direction: Right Hand Crowd: Crowded in big days Level: Advanced Best Swell Direction: S, SW, W Best Size: 4-12 ft Best Tide: Mid to High / Rising Best Wind: W, NW are offshore, Glassy mornings Surf Rating: 9 SUP rating: got to be crazy… In the heart of Sanur juts in front of the Grand Bali Beach Hotel, is considered one of the world best right reef break when over 8 feet but this happen very rarely. It breaks 500m offshore and can produce very long barrels, watch out for big clean up sets. Not for Nancy boys over 6 feet, watch the low tide. I had couple of perfect sessions when around head high and few surfer! Got my best wave ever here....
Tanjung Left & Right
Type of break: Coral reef Direction: Left and Right Hander Crowd: Left can get very crowded when barreling – Right is ok Level: From beginner to advance depending on size and tide Best Swell Direction: S, SW, W Best Size: 3 - 8 ft Best Tide: Mid to High for beginner – Mid to Low for advance / Rising Best Wind: W, NW are offshore, Glassy mornings Surf Rating: 7 SUP rating: 8 - The right is one of our favorite breaks on med to high tide and wave around 3 - 4 ft When you've entered the parking area of Sindu Beach you'll spot the two breaks: one right which is on the right side of the channel which can be surfed at all tides and a left at the other side which is better at high tide due to the shallow reef. Wear booties... The left is a very hollow nice wave with fun barrels when over 4 ft, the locals call it "mini pipeline". The right is always very very fast with super shallow reef...
Hyatt Reef
Type of break: Sharp dangerous shallow reef Direction: Right Hand Crowd: Medium to high Level: Experienced Best Swell Direction: S, SW, W Best Size: 3-7 ft Best Tide: Mid to High - Rising Best Wind: W, NW are offshore, Glassy morning Surf Rating: 8 SUP rating: 7 Quite a long way from shore (1 km) really susceptible to wind and tides! A shifty, hollow, fast and powerful right-hander. Some time closes out, sometimes lines up, it can deliver the best barrel of your life or the worst disastrous wipe out in the inside slab. Rideable for experts from the far right side (don't go too far or you will see yourself on corals!) and also rideable at inner peak for non-experts. Can get very crowded by locals but if you are lucky you will be there only with your friends and the locals who took you there. There is also a Left Hander in the other side of the channel that is great for learner! Fun wave with good power but not too long.
The Wreck
Type of break: Coral reef Direction: Right hander Crowd: Low to you will be by yourself Level: For Intermediate to Expert Best Swell Direction: S, SW, W Best Size: 2-5 ft Best Tide: Mid to High Best Wind: N are offshore, Glassy morning Surf Rating: 6 SUP rating: 8 Take the name from the Ship that got stuck on the reef in November 20010. Is a very fast right hander that normally punish you most of the time BUT some time with the correct tide and perfect swell create a perfect wall of about 100 meters.... If you get stuck inside you are doomed and will have to paddle all the way to the tower to get out again. Taking off next to the Wreck is quite nice. When Sanur is very small here you find the biggest wave!
Simzy
Reef Type of break: Coral reef Direction: Peak with long right hander and a short left hander Crowd: Low to you will be by yourself Level: For everyone Best Swell Direction: S, SW, W Best Size: 3-6 ft Best Tide: Mid-low to High Best Wind: N are offshore, Glassy morning Surf Rating: 6 SUP rating: 10 Far away from the beach just right to the light house. Rarely surfed! Only by few locals kids. Is our best SUPS spot we have found so far! Can be reached in 15 minutes of paddling. Best in no wind. Need some size to be breaking but if too big it will close out. Give you a great ride with a nice channel to be able to paddle out.
Baby Reef
Type of break: Coral reef partly covered by sand Direction: Left Hand Crowd: You will be by yourself Level: For everyone Best Swell Direction: S, SW, W Best Size: 4-10 ft Best Tide: Low to Mid-High Best Wind: N are offshore, Glassy morning Surf Rating: 2 SUP rating: 9 Next to Blue Reef is this mushy long left hander! Can't be really surfed but is great on a SUP, so far the absolutely best spot we have found for beginner. When Simzy Reef start to close out due to the size or the tide, here you can still have plenty of fun. Need no wind to be good and also some size to be breaking. Very easy wave with nice take off and keep going and going and going! Sweet channel to go out. Can't find a better place to start!
