I have finally been able to commit to a holiday with my family to stay in Kuta at the end of November for 9 days. **** time I know as Schoolies will be on but that's the only time we could all get time off work and school and that's where the minister for finance booked. The dilemma is do I take a board over or hire one and do the road trip for a wave or book a surf trip/tour with someone. As its our first time there, I will probably only get about 2-3 surfs in amongst doing the family thing. At the moment I am thinking about leaving the board at home as it is only a short stay, doing that next trip when time allows. Can anyone suggest who to book a couple of surf trips/tour with or hire a board and car etc.
Cheers

You will get mainly onshore winds at Kuta and the West side at that time of the year, so whatever you do you are probably going to have to head to the other side of the Island, Sanur, Nusa Dua etc to get some nice clean offshore conditions.

If you are only planning on getting out 2 or 3 times I reckon you may as well just do a couple of day trips across to Sanur, get in touch with Jankie, hire a board off him and he should be able to advise you what might be the best days/times/tides and point you to a few fun waves nearby.

or you could give these guys a go, particularly if you want to try to surf closer to where you are staying

Jankies your man.... very layed back, great service, great gear and great waves over at Sanur.
After paddling out to the reef on day one, I wanted to be lazy and grab a boat out to maximes surf time and take some water etc... Jankie organised it all and came out for a bit of fun as well. Even had a photog out there by chance to grab some pics which I didn't mind paying a few bucks for the memories.
Plenty of variety in waves and tides to see you have fun for a few hours before heading back in to meet the family for lunch etc along the beach after they've been shopping in Sanur...
You'll love it and so will they!!

Thanks for that fellas. From what you experienced Danny, I am pretty sure I will book with Jankie. What's the best to do, book something before I go or just wing it when I get there.
Thanks in advance.

I made contact with him via a message here before I left to let him know approx. dates I would be around.
Once there I rocked up to his shop and grabbed his Mbl number which I'm sure I still have and just text him my intentions. He'll keep you up to date on winds, tides etc.
Met him at his shop 1st time and he showed me the run down. After that, I rocked up, grabbed which ever board I felt like surfing on the day (jimmy Lewis boards/paddles - good variety) took off surfing (300m walk from his place) and hooked up with him on the way back in to throw him some cash.

As I mentioned previously, I got him to organise a boat and we all met up, grabbed the gear, walked down to the beach, met the boat and took off. Surfed a couple of different breaks all very SUP friendly but still challenging enough.

Can't wait to get back over there! You'll love it and still only 30mins tops from Kuta....Bet you stay in Sanur next time ;)
